mrbungle Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 yeah sorta, becuase the kashyyyk trooper was cgi, the images vary. the pics you posted are the models, then when they made the movie. they distroted the KT to make it fit a scene. the gree scene KT does not look like the main battle KT's. one pic looks like my helmet, another looks like sci fires and another looks like pghfett's. but yes that was the pic i was talking about.
Guest Skupilkinson Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 True, I'm learning fast about the variations.
Acrylikhan Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Wow... looking back at the ref images, I never realized that the chin triangle was flat with the snout, and not angle back toward the neck. Will you be adding the rib detail in the brow area above the visor? I think your helmet will fit my big melon!
postmortem01 Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 We'll be adding in all the details as we go now that we have the base helmet made. We are laying out the visor to cut right now. We're trying to determine the best way to make the visor....CNC or SLA.
Acrylikhan Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I would go SLA, Objet, or SLF. That way you don't have to worry about vibration when your cutter is getting down to the bottom, and it's pretty accurate. I think the build time would be faster with SLA.
postmortem01 Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 We actually set this up for CNC. The cutting time for this visor is only 22 minutes. There won't be any vibration. We tabbed the part and split it. After looking at the dimensions of this helmet, the faceplate may need to be cut loose for some people. It's a larger helmet for sure. We didn't want to increase the size too much otherwise it starts to look like a bobble head. We should be ready to start casting these within two weeks. In theory...
Guest Skupilkinson Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 2 weeks? Outstanding! Can't wait to see this progress further then.

postmortem01 Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 I'm sorry I'm double posting this in helmet and armor sections.... We had a little time to work on the helmet today. My back is still bothering me so Slavefive had to sand parts...lol. It's looking good so far. Obvously, we have a bit of work still on the main helmet and the visor has not been touched yet. The texture, of course, will not be there on the final helmet. That is just texture left behind by the poly-primer.
Guest Skupilkinson Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 WOW! Slick work! It's coming along swimmingly!
Spider Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Holy crap! I'm ready to do a KST! I was planning before, but....
Mosi Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Any progress on this? I asked a couple of weeks ago and they are still several months away before they will offer it. They said they are busy with other projects right now and this is a "spare time" thing, which is limited.
BlyWannaBe Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Just wondering if there are any update out there.
