i went with the lighter brown ones cause the sole was a little rounder and more accurate. i then painted them with a color i found thats in between an off white and almond and i love how they turned out. here they are after i painted them

The size is very good. its thickness is good and its light weight. the barrel seems to be a couple inches to short but i think it will be ok till i can upgrade.

i was working on my glove greeblies. heres a pic of the progress. i still have to paint them grey (my guidelines i used to cut the pieces out are visible which makes the pieces look less straight but the grey paint should fix that. im going to use a rubberized paint that should bend with the glove well. i will try to get the gloves finished soon.)

i like how the greeblies cam out too.

im off to dye my camo. ill keep you updated.

i dyed my under suit. heres a pic of the back of my shirt. i think its pretty close (although maybe a little more brown wouldn't hurt). Do you guys think its ok as is or should i try to make it more brown? 675990012_Rc6VA-M.jpg

Looking cool man. I hope I'm not looking like a total noob( even though I have some prop experience...) BUT... How and where should I start on the Kashyyk trooper? AFTW I hope my questions aren't considered "illegal hijacking of thread", because I'm just curious as to how I should start.

ive been super busy and was planning to go to south street to pick up some dye and stuff, but my dad was going by a fabric store and beat me to the punch. He picked it up for me. Mighty nice of him. He got me the vinyl (fake leather stuff) for the riding patch and two shaded of brown dye.

which shade of dye do you think would work better?

  • 1 month later...

Its been a while but i did some more work today. i got my kit so now i have lots to work on. today i started by dying my undersuit brown. Now its done being dyed (i did black and brown). im going to bring it to Thanksgiving at my aunt tomorrow and use her sewing machine to sew on the riding patch.

heres me getting the dye ready

heres the pants and shirt hanging up to dry. i will take a picture of what they look like during the day to give you a better idea(i think they came out great).

hanging to dry

the rest of the day i basically spent sanding. i did allot of sanding on the helmet to get it smoother. ill probobly do moor soon. i also sanded the edges of most of the armor parts.

723976808_ZpyTj-M-1.jpg

i plan on doing some bondo work on the helmet and back armor next. then the primer.

i picked up a crap load of materials at walmart. i got a for sale sign, 2 part epoxy, and other stuff i will get to later. i also got some paint. i got the primer and found a base coat color (i will post pics tomorrow to see what you guys think of the color). i think i got pretty close. i couldn't find the diamond wheel for the dremel so ill have to order it online or something.

i have two questions.

the bicep pieces seem big on me. is it ok to trim them down to better fit my arm (should i trim some off both sides, this question is for mr. bungle)?

what colors do i use for the green and brown parts in the camo? i want to get them in testor colors.

i did some more work today. i still havnt had a chance to pic up that diamond wheel for the dremel so i can do my biceps, shin pieces, or helmet yet. also the paint i got for the base coat didnt work out, so im going to have to go to a hobby shop or something soon. but today i did allot more sanding on the helmet. i did some bondo on one of the shoulder pieces, the backpack, and chest plate.

this is after i put the bondo on before i sanded it

725309889_KSY6t-M.jpg

i then added added a few coats of primer to most of the peices. i always seem to finish things at night so i cant take pictures.

but heres a dark/blurry

725309875_NHfP6-M.jpg

i havnt taken a pic of my undersuit yet but i am going to bring it to a local lady that does awesome sewing work. i let her do the hard stuff. ill take the pics after that.

what do you think of this collor for the base coat. i dont think it has enough of a almond/sand/tan color tint to it. what do you think?? (only the one corner is painted)

726025491_obCcx-M.jpg

heres a different pain. its spray paint but i brought a sample color someone posted and screenshots from the character model and this was pretty darn close. i couldnt get the color right in the pic, so i took a couple to try to make up for it.

Your Kashyyk Scout is looking good!

It's really hard for me to tell paint colors on my monitor or else I would comment on your samples. I say if it's pretty darn close then go for it. Try it on one part, let it fully dry, then do some more comparing to screen shots.

So what did you make your glove greeblies out of? Those look really good.

thsnks so much chad. i made them very cheaply. haha i made them out of craft foam and glue. i got some craft foam and got a bunch of screen shoots and carefully drew an outline. i cut all the little pieces out and glued them together. i then coated them in like a bunch of coats of elmers glue. they got realy smooth and with all the coats. i still gatta paint them though. haha i know its cheap but thats what i did. i figured id take a crack at it before spending lots of money and time on molds and stuff.

i also did a crap load of trimming and drilling and sanding today. hopefully i can do some glueing too. my biceps, shin, and for sale sign pieces are all trimmed, sanded, and ready to be glued together. let me know you opinion on the colors. ^_^

yea thats what i meant. trimming the bicepts and shins. I only trimmed the parts that meet and fit together. by "allot of trimming" i meant i took a lot of time, not that i trimmed allot off (i work slow when it comes to trimming). but i had to fix up my old dremmel first. measure everything. make sure it fit right. i also started cutting out the visor and some of the ear. but i have to go get another type of drill bit to finish on the visor. how should i do the green was. i dont have the money to go buy a sprayer or anything.

thanks man. im torn. the top color looks spot on in the sade but too light in the sun. the botton one (which is a little different in real life. more like my boot color) 675331117_snt4P-M.jpg

looks better in the light but too dark in the shade. is it bad i want to go with the bottom one just cause i like it better?

edit: i think ive made my decision. im going to use the top color and do a green was after i let everything cure. i printed out some color samples from from screenshots of some of the basecolors that mr. bungle, vodika, heatstock, and chad pointed out, and i think this color with a greenwash will pretty much be spot on. but i still havnt painted anything. so if any one has any objection post now or forever hold your piece.
