Holdfast
Mr Bungle has asked me to do a review of the armor kit he has produced as I am the first to recieve it. First thing I am going to say is this is not a kit for those new to building armor. It will be a challange. The kit comes in the basic white of HIPS and is mostly trimmed up. You will need to do the finer detail youself which is pretty standard. All the parts are well cast with a few exceptions. I found some of the indented lines on the boot armor didn't come through to clearly, but then again, people will not be just looking at your boots. They can be dremeled out after being trimmed up. The chest and back plate were roughly test fitted without trimming and fit really well. A bit tight for me but I am not exactly a little guy (I have broard shoulders and a big ribcage) but they fitted none the less. The calf pieces fitted well and are well cast. There will be a need to trim some of the sides off for a more snug fit and you may need a heat gun to bend them for a better fit and alignment. The tank is well designed to fit through the back plate and the tank topper will fit when the top recessed part is removed and trimmed up. The shoulder bells are fantastic as are the bicept pieces and the forearms. The cod piece is well done however the only fault I can find with it is I feel it needs more of a curveature to it where it joins the vest but it is nothing a heat gun will not fix. I can imagine everyone has a different body shape and it is something that is hard to factor in. The knees are well done also with the straps included. I have to admit, it was something I had worried about, but the straps are good and look durable. The shoulder straps (if you could call them that) are great, although I wouldn't reccommend you use them to join the front and back plates with. Straps under the armor would do the job well and you can run the shoulder bell straps down from them too. The left bicept strap is well done too. The belt is well done, however it will need to be painted a lighter shade of grey as per the CRL (suggestion - cast the belt in that color as paint flakes easily?). Resin greeblies are included for the tank topper, both the left and right bicepts, and for the strapping on the calf pieces. They are all well done with the exception of a few air bubbles. Again, nothing that cannot be fixed with model putty (tamiya). I also purchased Mr Bungles KST Bucket / Helmet / Lid. Another fantastic piece of work. The helmet is well crafted and suprisingly light, especially compared to my MLC V3 TB bucket. It is well crafted and with the proper attention and care will come up a treat. Overall I am going to have to give the kit a 8.5 out of 10. The only thing that I would add is a basic instruction sheet or maybe a disc with a tutorial. I am sure Mr Bungle will add this at a later date, once he has finished his own armor. I spent about 4 hours today just sitting there looking at the armor to figure out how I am going to put it togeather and have pretty much figured whats best for me. I personally take more delight in building armor more than actually wearing it, but thats just me. I am really looking forward to this build and am planning to start today. Keep an eye on my build thread, although I am planning to take about 3 months to do it. Again, not for a noob, but for anyone else I reccommend it. If only Mr Bungle did the full GM kit I would be the happiest trooper in the entire Legion. Well done to Mr B!
mrbungle
thanks ,tony. great review. i thought you were a little too kind to me. but i will take what i can get! being the first armor i have ever sculpted and sold so there are bound to be glitches but i plan to get better over time. to give you an example of my journey throught this, i had never vacformed until i pulled my armor for the KST. HA! i had to build the vactable before i could do that and sculpt the armor before that. so this has been a very informative project for me. i have learned tons from the start of this project. i plan to do a tutorial and post it on this board. you are the next to last guy getting that helmet. i am no longer selling the version one. the mold is about shot and version II is coming along and will make the old helmet look like bantha poo doo. also anyone who has ordered armor from me , please be patient. i am working as hard as i can without having a stroke! plus i want you to be happy with your kit. thanks again, tony. i look forward to watching you work on the KST. hopefully there will be more and more kst's trooping as we go along. Holdfast
Review has been cross posted on the TAG site. I am going to be doing it alone, well here in Australia at least for the moment! Just till I am operational and then others will hopefully want one too! I am happy with the helmet, I reckon it will do well.
Lonescout
I am giving MB a "1" out of 10, since I have not received a free armor kit yet! I have the belt and knee straps, If they are the same as what I have they are great!
