armor base color discussion.

Recommended Posts

what do you guys think about this as the base color for the camo armor. i went to a paint store and had them make up a tan to try to match the base color of the armor. it still needs the greenish tint to it. the kahki tan is too dark.

let me know what you guys think.

this is gonna get too nit picky. again - inconsistencies with ref pics. Think all of em are good. you colour looks good, but theres still green wash and black misting to go on to of it...... as it stands, it will withsstand scrutiny man

Problem though Tom - custom made paint is ok for mad people like you, me, angelo, frank rouge scot falcon1 etc etc etc (you guys know who you are!!!) but for joe-blogs regular costumer - we are gonna have to come to a nice compromise and try to get a nice rattle can alternative which is close enough, me thinks

I agree if we can only find a color like a tan or light beige in a rattle can! I am up for that!

Hey, according to my last psych eval I am not mad so don't lump me in with that crowd!!!!!! LOL :lol:

I am using a paint color called sandbank, a buff / tan color which is as close as I can get to the armor done by PGHFETT, and the green wash should work on it. Just as long as you do a better job that the guys at Clonetroopers, naming paints that are only available in the US and a nightmare for the rest of us in other parts of the world to get our hands on as the only accepted paints.

hmmm... I actually prefer the 1st colour tone MB.

my reason being that once u green wash and dirty it up, it would prob look better than the darker 'new' base - does taht make sense to any1 else aside from me?

pm recevied Angelo - I know wot u mean!

MB did you get this form home depot/lowes? I would like to experiment! Slapping both tones on a piece of styrene with a simple cameo pattern then green wash to seen which looks better...Remember the green wash is very light! Not as dark as my swap trooper!

i went to a paint store, and they made it up, but lowes or home depot should be able to do the same thing. the formula that i put up is the shots of tiint they put in the paint. the hc-96 is a benjimin moore color. brand of house paint. i had it made up in a satin latex.

i am trying to get the base color good enough where you do not have to do the green tint. ie the green tint is already there in the base coat of paint. the camo to me is applied with a sponge technique.

from the screen shots and the other reference. the base coat only looks greenish in the shodows and looks kinda of sandy in the light. if you look at the gree scene, there is no green tint in the base color, and when you look at the battle scene there si a slight green tint to the troops. but up close i do not see a green tint.

i think we all agree that the green tint is there for the crl. i just want my paint to contain the green already to eliminate the need for the green wash.

Good stuff Mr B. The trouble is there is too much conflicting referance.

This is were their has to be a little lee/way. Example....look at all the 501st(blue clones) we can line them up and no

two are the same unless that paint was done by the same person w/ the same paint. They all have different shades of Blue.

So we will have similar issues. I do like the base paint color.

We will have the same issues with the cameo job their will be differences...

Exactly, it may be fine for you guys in the US but troopers in other parts of the world don't have ready access to all paints and other stuff. For example I had to ask Mr B what bondo is. We don't have that here is Australia. Hell, we only got electricity last week! Lee way is good. As long as it is as close as we can possably within reason get to a Master KST.

try to ask for this tony,CRC automotive filler at your automotive parts store.

Now that I can get! For the joins I assume? Also, which glue do you reccommend to join the HIPS? The only other armor I have had never had any parts to glue togeather.

make sure you sand the armor before putting the automaotive filler on or it will just flake off.

i used a plastic forsale sign and a stromg household glue, then put the bondo over the joints.

Clear as mud! No worries, thanks for that. I was planning to give the whole lot a light sand to give the paint something to stick to instead of a perfectly smooth surface.
