Did you make the large, flat visor part a different mold, or is it just one piece made specifically for the helmet? I'm going to be sculpting my own helmet here soon, and I'm debating on making the whole thing just one solid piece, with the visor part permanent. The problem is, I don't know how hard it would be to make a mold with such a big undercut. It might be better to make them separate pieces, but then it would be harder to assure a smooth fit with the visor part, and even harder to make it a separate mold.

Unless I'm just over thinking the whole thing, which I'm wot to do.

Any advice?

i made the viser as a seperate piece. it would be too hard to sculpt if you did'nt and not to mention the molds.

when i mold it , it will be 3 seperate molds. face, back, and viser.

i have given up on making this helmet a flip face. the gaps will be too big. mainly where the viser meets the brow. to make it work you need a 8 th of an inch gap. the screen shots show no gaps . maybe version 2.0 will be a flippy. but not right now. the idea of this build is to be a accurate as possible. so j-b weld it is. but this helmet will come together alot quicker without the added headache of trying to make it work.

it is my first helmet build after all.

i hang my head in defeat.

but,i will rise up with a full heart and bury this helmet in it's own blood. HAHAHAHA

something one of my heros would say.

bill the butcher from gangs of new york. he had one eye, i have one eye. so i admire bad azzs with one eye!!!!! LOL!!!!

tell you wot tom - give me one from the 1st run and I will work on it ;P - joking, really, honestly!!!

no need to hang ur head in shame mate. looks awesome. like the little details u are tryin to get into the lid as well.

problem I think with tryin to make that hinge work, is that you will prob have to give up some of the perfect lines in a clone bucket. to date - I've had to cut off the neck seal off a AOTC clone trooper lid, and the face plate of a Cmdr Neyo lid. Clones are a right pain in the oink, but when u get the look right, its gorgeous ;D

not sure how u guys feel, I use a modded Rubies, and the face-plate never sits right on mine. thinking of velcro or rare earth magnets to keep my lid closed properly. so - if the face plate has to be in a 1-peice on the KS lid, so be it man.

I love it!(your quote) You have done an awesome job! It looks very accurate and I thik pghfett had the same problem.

This is starting to look really good. Is it me, or does it tilt to the right a little bit? Actually, I think that's just the stool it's sitting on.

pghfett made a great helmet, but if there's one big flaw in it, it's that he made the visor too wide between the bridge of the nose and the top. It looks like you've corrected this somewhat, although I still think it could be a little thinner. Just my observation though, and not a big deal.

your right. i was talking to someone about that the other day ,about the gap between the nose and brow. i thought mine and pghfett's helmet were to wide in that area. it is tricky to get it right. but i am trying.

if you see something else, don't be shy.

the the top of the triangle is crooked. no problem ,i took it of and sanded the snout to be more flat inside the reccess of the snout.

i hope to have this helmet done in the next 2 weeks ,then start an interest thread.

Bro, this looks great! It's certainly getting very tight and crisp in details!

The visor looks really good too!

Making a flip lid should be very easy... as I am doing the same with mine. Fusing it together to make it on part, and then carefully marking out a new line where the bucket should be.

This is my plan for my helmet... you can see where I've redefined where the bucket line will be. I just used the DP rubies to get a feel what it should look like.

Plan the cut, and then place the visor on the whole thing mark and drill the holes for the bolts. Make sure the hinge works with the visor, trim off any excess where the hinge stops on the bucket. After your satisfied that it works, double check your marked cut line for the faceplate, and make sure it works well with your planned cut. Then carefully, and slowly cut the faceplate away. If you can, don't use a Dremel unless you're comfortable that you can control it effectively. Score the line a few times with an xacto blade, and then slowly trim off with the tip of an xacto saw. You'll keep more material. Then it's all a matter of fusing the hood and the faceplate together.

looks like a good idea. right now i do not have the time to try to make it a flippy face. version 2 of my helmet will.

I really hate to say this, but the greeblies look too big to me, maby it will look diffrent when it's painted.

no worries. your the second person to say that and i am going to fix it. i also think i am going to add height to the top to add head room.

really looks great... I can't believe how far you've come so fast. I wish I had the talent to make something like this (i'd be producing TB helmets already :) ). Great job so far. I really like that you're taking the feedback from everyone on here and tweaking it to get the most accurate look. Spectacular!
