Update on my Progress (Picture Heavy)

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow scouts. Just wanted to post a few pictures of the progress I've made since my last post.

Please note before posting comments:

-I will be purchasing a UA HeatGear Balaclava as soon as I can find one in stock.

-I will be fixing my T-Det so that the alice clips aren't visible.

-Boots are coming this week and I will post again when they're done.

With those things in mind let me know what improvements I can make to my costume so it would be 501st acceptable.

Looking forward to your comments - thanks in advance!

Lookin' rock solid!

My only 2 cents. Wear your forearm armor on top of your glove. The placement is perfect, just should not be tucked inside the glove. Trim the extra strapping you have hanging down at the back of your belt from the thigh boxes.

Well done!

aside from the forearm comment above, the only other suggestion I have is to stuff the pouches a little more at the top. They seem to be empty at the top and slant outward as you near the bottom. I think the pouches should be equally full at the top and bottom, forming a squared off shape. I used pieces of foam cut from a mattress topper.

Otherwise looking great :)

Thanks! That's a good idea about the forearm armor. I had hoped more would be showing when I wore it, and now it will be. I forgot to mention about the extra strapping - so trimming will take place soon!

Thanks for the idea of using square shaped foam for inside the pockets - I'll have to make some blocks myself!

I got some 1/2 inch foam and cut and glued together a rectangle with no top. That way it's still hollow inside and can still be functional if you want to carry things in your pouches. The foam that JoAnn's sells is green, but I just found some beige foam at Hancock Fabrics.

Awesome idea. Glad they still function - is there a certain brand or type of glue you'd recommend to use on the foam?

You want to use a contact cement. What I use is called "Barge" cement. It comes in a red and yellow tube that I get at Ace Hardware. You'll also need some sort of cheap disposable brushes (also at Ace) to apply it to both sides, let it dry a bit but still tacky before you put the parts together. But probably any type of "contact" cement will be fine.

Here are some pictures from going to see the midnight showing of Clone Wars in Appleton! There was about 20 people there and 4 of them were in costume (two were my girlfriend and I!).

Any comments are appreciated! Thanks for all the earlier help!
