PGHFETT BARC Helmet Review

Recommended Posts

I got my helmet kit from Mike today.

The purchase process was a pleasure! Mike kept me informed on helmet status and shipping information. Helmet was here in less than a week. The helmet was securely packed and there was no damage when I opened the box.

The box included 1 helmet and visor, bag of greeblies, instruction sheet and helmet stickers.

The helmet itself looks great! As it is a kit, I do need to do some minor prep work. A few places need sanding and a bit of bondo. No major casting defaults anywhere! The visor appears to be nice and strong but will need a bit sanding too. And best of all, no fiberglass smell! The grebblie kit came with all the pieces to make the snout area and a set of bolts for the visor.

This kit will take minimal work to get it up and running. But there is an issue.......

There are some symmetrical issues. The visor and one of the “ears†is a bit off. But it’s not too bad.

Overall I am happy with the kit. I like building things and this will be a great project. I do plan on painting my helmet different the Mike’s. Once painted up, you will not be able to see any imperfections. The camo scheme will hide the symmetrical issues.

If Mike were to do a Version 2 helmet and correct these small issues, this helmet would be 5 out of 5 stars!!! As it is now, I’ll give the helmet a 4 out of 5 Army Scout rating!

Nice work Mike!!!

(Sorry no pics. Damn kid broke my camera. I will be posting my progress thread once I get into the build)

ArmyScout,

TY so much for the review!!!! I'm glad you liked the helmet. I work really hard on each and every helmet and refuse to send out a poor product. Before I send one out I ask myself would I find this product acceptable if someone sent me this".

If you figured in my time on each bucket at it's current cost, I am making nothing on them, they are for us BARC (and SW) freaks LOL.... :D

I also want to say this is OUR helmet here at the boards. We all had imput in this helmet, alot of advice was passed onto me and I used it. WE are the only ones treding this unknown ground with the BARC (feels like we are building the death star in secret) and at C3 or stuffs gonna rock !!!!!! The BARC for me is a labor of love for the character.

The symmetrical issues probably are largely inpart due to my lack of expierence in sculpting helmets, this was my first helmet I ever sculpted and BOY did I pick a hard one to start out with. Sometimes when you stare at something for so long you don't notice the obvious, LOL. Anyway, with the art work abilities of the people I have met here, I'm sure the helmet will be taken to a new level of completion. Use the helmet as a base to work off of and enjoy yourself in it's construction.

As an addded note, ArmyScout PM me your paypal so I can reinbuse you for the shipping difference of $10.00 and on Monday I'll be mailing out your Gree Chromed Green Visor tint.

TY AS again if you need anything I'm just a pm away,

Oh, yeah, and best of all I don't hold peoples money "hostage" for months on end as seems to be the big complaint as of late and I will always answer emails and Pm's
