Guest PointMan Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Man, Acrylikhan. You never cease to amaze. First the AMAZING modifications you did to the Rubies helmet, and now this. You're something.
Guest Holdoutscout Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Gah! Acrylikhan you are AMAZING! Like PointMan said, first the rubies and now this!? Man you are on a roll! Keep it up, i cant wait to see the finished pics!
Acrylikhan Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 My life is an unending quest of building and modding. Like, right now... I've started modding a Kashyyyk Trooper helmet so that the hood and faceplate are hinged like a Scout. Which is also a learning project as I am learning the art of fiberglassing. And now, I'm working on a 10% larger Scout to fit my big fat melon of a head. I'll post finished pictures soon. I need to find what box I packed it.
Acrylikhan Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 I'm getting mixed results with the weathering.... My buds at work thing I should re do it.
mrbungle Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 when are you going to cast me a copy of that bad boy!!!???
Guest SnakeEyes Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 when are you going to cast me a copy of that bad boy!!!??? Very Nice For A Remake Of A Blaster From Storm Troopers
Lonescout Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Looking to to me! What do they want? Less weathering or more detail?
Acrylikhan Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 They liked it plain black, without the silver wear, the new, or slightly new looking finish. I'm thinking maybe I could have toned it down with a wash with some dark brown. You know... I forgot to add the targeting strips on to the muzzle sights. I'll have to find my adhesive foil, and break out the double blade X-acto.
Holdfast Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Super job. I just weathered a pair of DC 15's myself, but instead of using silver paint, I used a lead pencil. It will take longer but the graphite in the pencil gives off a really nice bare metal finish. Apply it to the edges where something would weather naturally. Graphite powder and cue tips do the same job. The key I found was to be subtle and not over do it.
mrbungle Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 thanks for the tip , i might try that on my dc-15 shorty.
Acrylikhan Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Are you using a fixative on the graphite after you apply it? I would think It would tend to get a little messy handling it afterwards.
Acrylikhan Posted June 5, 2009 Author Posted June 5, 2009 More weapons building - this time the rifle. Lots of lathe work, and some minor assemble. Killin' time while I get the biker scout chest armor in order. More photos to come.
Guest Sith_Lord_Hritz Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 your work on the blaster is great, it makes me want to start one myself.
Acrylikhan Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Thanks! It's moving slow.... but it's getting there....
Acrylikhan Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 Like an alien cocoon, the mid-section of the DC-15L hangs in my paint booth, with a fresh coat of primer. Flaws and all... minor repairs, and alteration to be made. Then a nice coat of black.
Acrylikhan Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 I checked it out this morning... I've got more gap filling to do. Sheesh... primer brings out the best, and worst sometimes. I guess painting will have to wait another week!
Guest Skupilkinson Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Tell me about it! LOL! Primer, love it or hate it.
Acrylikhan Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Adding some overlooked details. I hate when that happens. A major one on the clip and a minor one on the barrel. Coming together nicely. I upgraded the bolt from a thin 1/4" x 20 up to a 1/2" x 13. Fat and sturdy. Reaming the holes on the midsection and the handle, then tapping them was not easy. Another detail, the center ring clips for holding the sight to the gun Acrylic is all you need. And then bonded the stock to the grip on the gun. Maybe some more work tomorrow.
