loosetoon
I've been enjoying TB-1019's Thread about the Racing Suit he uses as opposed to a flightsuit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***UPDATE: Here's the Racing Suit that I ultimately bought and I LOVE IT!. Look a few posts down for some photos. The price is right - $64.99 plus ship, which worked out to be $73 and change. It's half the price of the Wesco Racing Suit and it arrived in only 5 days from when I ordered it! http://www.tunerschoice.com/xq/aspx/paging.../qx/Product.htm When the box arrived, I noticed it came from Speedwaymotors.com. I just checked that site and the same suit is listed there for the same price, and with some more info about it including a sizing chart. Order from the first link , though... shipping is a few dollars higher: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2466,201_S...dFire-Suit.html And now back to my original post: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm totally sold and was looking into purchasing one for myself. But, it looks like the price has gone up a bit since his original posting. The base price is now $140 as opposed to the original $125, and this is still before shipping is added. Well, searching around for other possible options before taking the plunge, I came across this suit: G-force GF125 One Piece Racing Suit It comes in solid black, cuffs and all, and is $129.99 with free shipping. There's only 4 patches on the suit, and the single collar patch looks like it's the only crucial one that needs removing. What do you think? TB-1019
It's not a bad looking suit, and I think that racing suits always look better than flight suits (because that's what was worn on-screen, and they tend to be less baggy than flight suits). However, I have only two minor things to nitpick on this particular racing suit. First are the epaulets, which can be removed so is not a major drawback. The second is what is written in the description of the suit, that it has a slight semi-gloss sheen to it, which I think won't look right underneath armor. Otherwise, I like the way it looks, and it has the sealing mandarin collar which is more important to the overall look of the suit than most people would would think. Nice find. loosetoon
I just found this suit tonight. No info to speak of except for the photos, which looks good to me. And the price is right - $64.99 plus ship, which worked out to be $73 and change. For half the price, I'm taking a chance and ordering one. I'll let you all know how it looks once I get it. http://www.tunerschoice.com/xq/aspx/paging.../qx/Product.htm *UPDATE: When the box arrived, I noticed it came from Speedwaymotors.com. I agree, but it kinda looked to me like the model was just wearing one that was about 2 sizes too small. A large would fit me just fine, but I ordered an XL. I'll keep you posted when it arrives. TB-1019
I just wanted to point out here that I think the main reason why I think racing suits are superior to flight suits is because flight suits are intentionally made baggy to accommodate pilot's g-suits and other undergarments. Even if you get one that is correctly sized for you, they are put together a little baggy. Racing suits are meant to fit closer to the body to assist in reducing drag (for motorcycle suits) and to protect car drivers. They should not be form fitting, but they should not look like you are wearing a tent on you either. One of the biggest detractions of flight suits-- again, IMO-- are that they bunch up at the joints and tend to make some look sloppy. Shiny
Loosetoon, I am eagerly awaiting photos and info about the new suit you ordered -- I wonder.. pending photos and some further investigation, anyhow... would this be a good alternative base for a lancer-approved suit? loosetoon
The new Racing Suit arrived tonight, and I think it's fantastic! I love it! It got here really fast, too. It fits great and it is definitely not too tight or clingy. In fact, if anything the legs are a bit long, so there's some good "wiggle" room for those that would want it. I could actually pull the pants legs down my foot and almost reach my toes! Again, the L would have been good, but I'm still glad I got the XL because the upper portion really fits great and maybe the Large would have not. It does not feel heavy at all, or unusually hot. And it looks like only some minor modifications to remove the 2 epaulets on the shoulders, and the 4 patches. It also has belt loops which should be hidden by the bund. OK, get ready for some photos: Here it is! $64.99 plus shipping ($73 and change for me). The full suit on the hanger. Close-up detail on the hanger. Looking good with the Don Post and the accurate gloves. Don't worry... KS Helmet is on the way! Collar closed and open. The rear view. Close up of the cuff. Belt closed and open. Bahalia (Peepers) likes it, too! Well, I'm extremely happy with it. Once again, here's where I found it: http://www.tunerschoice.com/xq/aspx/paging.../qx/Product.htm

It was on my doorstep when I got home from work yesterday the 9th. When the box arrived, I noticed it came from Speedwaymotors.com. I just checked that site and the same suit is listed there for the same price, and with some more info about it, including a sizing chart. I might just get myself another one and get a large this time : http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2466,201_S...dFire-Suit.html
Shiny
Yea according to that sizing chart I'm a Medium, those measurements are spot on with all my everyday clothing, but in costume I prefer comfort so (knowing that it won't be as billowy as my current flight suit) I ordered a Large instead. great find! Ghost_Stkr
Looks like a great suit I'm on the market for one now... Any thoughts for the Lancers on if these suits would be accepted with the proper mods?
TB-1019
Any thoughts for the Lancers on if these suits would be accepted with the proper mods? Everything you need to know about what is, and what is not considered for Lancer status can be found HERE. For efficiency's sake, I will re-post the relevant section: IV. UNDERSUIT 1. Based on a one piece flightsuit or racing suit and including: - All visible zippers and pockets (except for primary zipper) removed. - Suede riding patch on the inside of the thighs and over the seat of the suit. - Two thigh straps that fit underneath riding patch. - Collar that can be raised up to help conceal the neck.
