TB5994
Started to work on the "wear patches" on the leg, the one peice pannel bit, anyone got any veiws? I'm going for a moleskin suede dark tan (fake, so you can machine wash it) wondered what anybody else was thinking of using. Seeing as riding jodphurs and Biker Scouts use suede on the inner thigh. Leather is not right, it won't sit naturally and would fold.

Leather is not right, it won't sit naturally and would fold. I have been using light to medium weight suede (real leather product from Tandy). It has a little flex for placement and is washable, but I line dry the jumpsuit rather than machine dry. Also it can NOT be washed with any other color item because the suede dye bleeds into everything. It does clean well enough though. I do not wash a lot. elkamino
I was figuring on using Clarino. Its what is used in the same area on riding pants. Its a synthetic microfiber suede that IS washable and avaialble in almost any color. Check out: clarino.com I just can't find a supplier. Ghst915
I plan to use a soft deer skin leather to do mine with a little padding behind it.
TB5994
confused as to why peeps are going for leather? I cant recall ever seeing any horse riders ect using leather wear patches, nor did the scouts have leather, but suede.

Becuase the BARCs looks like a leather with cracks in it to me and suede will not give that cracked look and leather will do that.
TB5994
hmm, yeh, there is some sort of detailing in the material, but surely common sense should prevail over a guess, based on a blurred CGI image, thats the problem, we are working on something that simply doesnt exsist, but to make it exsist, we have to turn to real world comparables, to create what an artist drew. I cant recall ever seeing any horse riders ect using leather wear patches, nor did the scouts have leather, but suede. Suede is a type of leather with a napped finish. However, it can also refer to a similar napped or brushed finish on many kinds of fabrics. The term comes from the French "gants de Suède", which literally means "gloves of Sweden". [1] Suede leather is made from the under side of the skin, primarily lamb, although goat, pig, calf and deer are commonly used. Splits from thick hides of cow and deer are also sueded but due to the fiber nature have a shaggy nap. Because suede does not include the tough exterior skin layer, suede is less durable but softer than standard ("full-grain") leather. Its softness, thinness, and pliability make it suitable for clothing and delicate uses; suede was originally used for women's gloves. Suede leather is also popular in upholstery, shoes, bags, and other accessories, and as a lining for other leather products. Due to its textured nature and open pores, suede may become dirty and absorb liquids quickly. Suede should be cleaned as per manufacturer's directions. Modern tanning improvements have made waterproof and stain-proof suede leather available.[citation needed] Suede is Leather. It is the type of finish.
