Just had a resounding sucess with the search for the perfect undersuit/combats!

As I had thought, British Desert combats dyed brown (Dylon Chocolate Brown, machine wash) turn out almost perfect!

The combats I had lying about from Iraq, the dye, £2.99! ($6) 1 hour later and the colour match/ paterns 99% perfect!.... prob is, i'm still unpacking from my move, so as yet, cant find my camera! <_< BUT, tomorrow, I promise I will post pics of the finished suit, shity and trousers.

Trust me, they look sweeeeet, especially now as I have removed the pockets too!

Did a quick search... Is this the style of them?

Trying to imagine them died and could see them being close if that is the current camo pattern you are talking about... if so... that is great! Will look forward to seeing your died version... might have to buy some british military surplus!

Here we go!

I used Dylon "chocolate brown" in the packet form, 400g cost about £2.50, $5! turned the darker pattern a nice brown colour, the lighter, a greyish tan, perfect! really REALLY chuffed how it came out!

I did two sets, one with half the powder, one with the lot, thinking the second would be too dark, but i'm happier with the second batch! I might now try and find a redish brown to achieve the tinge you can see in the pics, not a very military colour scheme (i'm happy enough with the second batch) but the first batch, with the lighter shade will be a perfect "test bed" for future dye runs.

The flash has killed the depth of the colour a bit, but I personally will be sticking with this, as the pattern in my eyes is closest to canon, and the colour is ney on spot on! ;)

The ones on the left are batch one, a nice colour, but I wanted it slightly darker, the right hand ones were spot on! (the boonie is there to show the original colour!

Is it possible to get the camo as yard goods? I want them to fit as tight as on screen

and not so baggy - that'sy why I'm asking in case I go that route.

I know that a lot of camp patterns are avalaible not fabricated.

Hmm, have to talk with a fellow cosplay seamstress if that might be doable.

But I think to tighten it up that way it needs really heavy modifications.

Another challenge would be the pockets in case they have the extension

folds like the US BDU. The BARC and GM ones don't have these but

plain ones to the front.

So there might be two sets of pants required to do the mods.

The jacket is the next obstacle as it will be even more difficult to mod that

one than the pants - and if you chose some sort of shirt (I've seen only Tees

so far - no longsleeves) the material difference might mess up the tones of

the dyed pieces. Or is there an overall too?

Thats where Ladyghst comes in handy guys, those are the same camos I plan to use and will be having her mod them for us. But I feel they still need to be darker in color.

Yes the grey is close but to be dead on it should be darker grey, like my coveralls I'm modding as well.

I also wonder if - the darker we get - the olive tones will vanish too much instead of turning

as dark as on screen? I'm not familiar with dyeing...

nah trust me, i'll get these shipped to Mike asap, he'll be able to confirm the greyer area is darker in the flesh.

The combats I have used are a shirt and trouser combo, have both dyed exactly the same, well happy with the match. these will both be very easy to tighten around the arms and legs, as there is no pockets on them and they are like simple trousers, very easy to alter with a cheap sewing machine ;)

Phil, you should easily be able to get this on the roll, its standard british army desert combats.

I have looked everywhere I could but no sign of yard-goods. I guess I'm basing my quest on

the wrong keywords. Also are there different products? A local ebay shop offers these but made

from a poly-cotton fabric (65% poly) which I thought would be a bit difficult to dye.

yup, do NOT BUY online for british desert combats!!!!

Most will be cheap "knock offs" in poly cotton, and only the cotton will dye! I can locally purchace, and possibly still blag what I can from mates still serving. I wont charge for my services, All I need are sizes and I can buy locally, you guys cover shipping and the price of the combats and we're good to go!

If this is my small contribution to helping get an awesome squad of Barcs off the ground, then happy to help!

british desert camo, standard issue mate.

this is the cheepest ANYWHERE I can find, I can't even beat that if I get new issue stuff, as my mates still have to pay for what they sign for!

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/PEELYSCOMBATS-SHOP

All the desert camo shirts and trousers sold there are poly-cotton. Aren't those the ones we should not use as they don't dye well?

right guys - with 3 potential new armourers on the horizon; thought I kick-start this thread again :D

been searching round a bit at local army surplus as well - as all the dpm's I cna find are poly cotton. as its cheap (ish) for me to experiment; I plan to get a set of these and the dye metioned by tony in the 1st post and see how it does.

bear with me.

if it is a go - the ebay shop tony originally posted actually posts to US for not much more than a person-to-person post

(hey Tom, I thought it would be ok; if ur stuff doesnt dye properly - my apologies)

Nate
