First post in here, and after about a decade of telling myself I will begin a build for the 501st, I finally am taking the dive into building a shoretrooper! I love their design and the fact that they can sit down haha. I am curious if anyone has used the Galactic Armory STL file for their kit. Its a good price and seems like its an accurate file. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hey there, @obgibson!

I don’t have any personal experience with the GA files. But I have seen some real world photos of some that have used them for their build. And there are many inaccuracies. Especially the helmet.

I think I read somewhere that Mickey said GA uses battlefront as a reference. So any inaccuracies on the game would also make their way to the files.

There are other 3D print options out there. I’d suggest checking out Stoo’s Shoretrooper Shack website for some reviews, breakdowns and comparisons:

Do LOTS of research and compare to reference photos. The more pre-build analysis you do the better!

@MikeRadness Thank you for the information! I appreciate it.
I have come across the Stoo Shoretrooper file a few times. Its a bit pricy and thats is the only reason I was looking elsewhere. But it might just be the way to go then if these cheaper ones just are not accurate. At least with Stoo's the money is going to a good cause!!

Thank you again for the help. I am no stranger to builds as I have a large background in cosplay master level competitions, so doing proper research is a natural first step for me. I am glad to have this forum as a resource as I can already tell, it will be invaluable!!

Great! Just to clarify, Stoo’s shack is a website that compares (some) available options. Mr Paul’s files are what I think you may be referring to. And yes, they cost a bit more, but are considered the most accurate.

Stoo’s page does review a few other STL file options as well. Hope this helps.

Mr. Paul's are definitely the best when it comes to accuracy.  I bought the files myself, and the fact that the funds were going to charity made the price tag a little easier to swallow.

Galactic Armory rips a lot of their Star Wars stuff from Battlefront, and as Mike mentioned, that doesn't always work for approval.  The 3d models from the game are sometimes missing details; other times they add new ones.  It's difficult to really evaluate them until someone starts printing them out though -- there are so many 3D modelers out there now, we can't possibly stay on top of them all.

Don't forget about the Sean Fields files too.  They have accuracy issues, but they are FREE and many troopers have been approved with them.  I believe updates have been made to them over time.

@MikeRadness Oh fantastic! I only saw Mr.Pauls on there, I must have clicked away too soon. Thank you!
@BikerScout007 Yes I have been finding a lot of smaller creators with STL files, and many do not respond to messages about their source. I think going the route of a source that is tried and true would be the best, and the fact Mr.Pauls fund are donated definitely speaks to me. I think thats where my money will go.

I appreciate the insight from the both of you! I look forward to being a apart of this community.

I have a printed set of Galactic Armory Scout Trooper and I wouldn't use it for Approval. Maybe pieces of it.

I have a Studio Creations kit I am building alongside two Galactic Armory prints and I am not even approved and I can already see problems with some of the pieces just from my casual reading of the CRL, particularly for Level 2 approval.
