I'm a member of the Midwest Garrison and also a member of the Mandalorian Mercs with a post-imperial custom Mandalorian kit. I've always loved the Shoretrooper armor design, so I've decided to start building my own! Very early stages here, obviously, but I'll be using Sean Fields' files. From what I can gather, they'll get me level 1 approval - which I'm totally fine with. It looks like I'll need to update the greeblies in the back plate as well as do some trimming of the back...but honestly I'm still trying to figure that out. For now, I've started work on the helmet. Anyone out there have experience getting approved using Sean's files? Anything I should know? Looking forward to joining the ranks! Tarok Posted November 13 Share Posted November 13 Google Stoo’s shoretrooper shack. I believe he’s got a few fixes for the Sean Fields ST files.Nico’s helmet used to be the most accurate. Paul Hi Paul, welcome to the Pathfinders forum Plenty of trooper have been approved with Sean's files, and he has been updating them ever since he first released them. @Tarok is right though, check out Stoo's Shoretrooper Shack for the latest info on available 3D files. Thanks for the responses and suggestions. @BikerScout007, really glad to hear that folks have been approved with Sean's files and that he's been updating them. I hadn't seen any super recent intel on that front, so that's good to know. Just got my first can of Sahara Beige in the mail today...and have some of the helmet printed with more underway (just upgraded my old Anycubic Mega X to a Bambulabs A1 and whooo boy is it night and day), so I'll share here when I make some progress on that. Hitting some of the helmet parts with the dark brown base coat before moving to the Sahara Beige. Buy mirror the others here that say many have been approved with them. Building my Shoretrooper was the most fun I’ve had in the hobby. Glad you’re joining us! I can share a little bit about my personal weathering process which seems to produce decent results. In this thread I made, even though it is a “conversion” thread, it talks about many parts of my build technique. Hope you find some of it helpful. The entries that cover weathering specifically are on Oct 28th (Chipping) and Nov 9th (scuffing and grime): Happy Building! Pathfinders lead the way! I got down a bunch of Sahara Beige and have the top of the helmet put together. I consider myself a decent spray painter, but WOW is the Montana Gold tough to deal with! Spitting everywhere and just very finicky. I've tried all the tricks - shaking it for an eternity, warm water, the whole thing. Just going to require a little more finesse than I'm used to for spray painting. But, not insurmountable! Otherwise, I really like how the dark brown chipping has come out. I'll black/brown wash the whole thing later. The rest of the helmet is finally in a good place and is ready for paint. So, that'll be my next update. Happy Thanksgiving! Maybe you got a bad can or spray tip is clogged?Either way - don't sweat it because what you described basically adds to the weathering look. It's a very different paint than most of us are used to, that's for sure. Because they are made specifically for graffiti, you really got to get in close and go slow with them. Cyra Marrus Posted December 10 Author Share Posted December 10 Yeah, I've had to deal with some splatter, but have found it to be a bit better now as long as I'm holding the can vertically and have given it a good shake. Check out the helmet below. Just painted the emblem on there yesterday. Still need to do the black accents around the collar, and on the notches in the tusks. Then will black/brown/burnt umber wash. I also know I need to cover the rear vents. Thinking I can do that easily by painting a chunk of PLA black. Working on the hand plates as well...will share those when I finish painting them. Valafar Posted December 10 Share Posted December 10 I've had some problems with the Montana Gold paint in the beginning as well. The paint was not holding to the parts very well and it was like a sand texture. I think the mail problem for me was that the can was too far away from the objects, you need to be quite close. The original looks almost black With a black wash I think it’ll darken quite a bit. But could I get @KOtrooper or @BikerScout007 to weigh in on that? BikerScout007 Posted December 10 Share Posted December 10 Personally, I don't think black wash looks good. The film ones weren't done that way. I did my first iteration with black wash and I was pretty unhappy with it. I ended up repainting the whole thing, and then adding the weathering with acrylic paint. Mostly Burnt Siennas, browns and blacks. I would smear it onto the seams and then knock it back with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Personally, I really like the dark brown..but want to make sure that's going to get approved. The CRL doesn't specify the weathering color. Anyways, let me know what y'all think.
