Sierra Hiking Boots Detailed Photos

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i'm pretty sure at least one of you guys have a pair of the original model Sierra boots at hand. Would someone take a few detailed, sharp photos of each side of the boots and send them to me via dropbox, etc?

Especially shots of the stitching/seams and sole up close would be very useful. Also a shot of the inside (without lacing, so details are visible) would be helpful.

Have you already looked at the photos in the gallery, here? http://www.501stpathfinders.com/scoutopedia.php

I had some boots years ago, now I wished I'd taken more detailed photos -

Those boots are quite rare at this point and relatively few people have them. Have you also tried asking on the RPF?

Keep in mind they lack the side stripe the 3’s have, but I would love if someone made a repro as mine dried out (and those appear as well), no accurate boots out there sadly…

Thank you, i'm aware of that. There are even more differences between the "two" versions. The HiTec sneaker has an angled corner where the "cuff" meets the lacing rivet and the fabric is more coarse than the Sierras'/Inters'. It also seems to be that the earlier versions had their top lacing loop-rivet fixed with only 1 rivet, as the suspected later versions show 2 rivets.

I'd love to see well made repros as well, as the available soles/boots look like gumboots in their clumpiness, lacking details compared to the RotJ boots. Making repros is a huge undertaking(copyright!) and i understand why only the soles where "kinda" reproduced.

I seem to recall a thread here, a looooong time ago, where someone actually contacted Hi Tec (the manufacturer of the boots) and asked some questions about making more of them. IIRC, they had no desire to start making them again and I don't even think they had much production material for them (designs, moulds, etc...) but I don't think they were interested in the legalities of a boot they stopped making 40-ish years ago. Crowprops makes the best replica sole for this that's currently available but the boot is not the right shape (more like modern "hiking style" boots than those with the softer toe vamp (front part of the boot over the toes).

So yeah, Crowprops can afford to make these because that's what they do. Any other manufacturer that would consider making these again would need to know there's a market for them and, sadly, it's kinda limited to us scouts and maybe the small number of Rebel Endor Troopers who'd be interested.

Yes that's correct. I also recall someone reaching out to HI Tec and there was no interest in a reissue.

Short of stumbling on the exact size and model on ebay, the crow props base boot style is the best we have available.

I parted from such idealistic dreams years ago. Corporations only only do re-issues from products if there's a financial or reputational gain. Both i don't see here. I read about Mr Poopie recreating some soles, some years ago and the outcome was that they would be too expensive for the effort for making a bussiness out of. But crowprops and IB already have access to manufacturers. Maybe they are interested to upgrade their products...

@MrPoopie gave up trying to recreate the soles when Crowprops and IB came out with their repros.  There was no point anymore.

I got a pair of Hi-Tecs (without the middle line but still...) but they've already been converted into Scout boots.   I mean, for the amount of money people have to spend to get them, I doubt anyone is just hanging onto them for their collection.

Encouraging the existing vendors to improve the product would be great, at the very least if CP would switch to canvas uppers vs. pleather it would make if far easier to stitch the covers on like the original props.
