Hello from Berlin, Germany

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

My name is Alex and I am 39 years old. I am a Star Wars fan since I was a kid, even before I saw the first movie. I found an old sticker album and dived deep into the galaxy far far away! When the special edition was released the madness started. 🤪

When I learned about the 501st at the Jedi Con 2004 I wanted to become a 501st Member. Finally I met some people of the German Garrison by fluke in spring this year.

Now I learn the ROTJ Scout CGL by heart, printed all DIY instructions I found here and have everything together for the soft parts (apart from the gloves). I'm only waiting for bad weather to have an excuse to stay inside instead of working in the garden. 😉

I think of 3D print the armour because I have professional printers at hand. Can anyone recommend a really good file which meets CGL standard?

I look forward to finishing the costume to become a full 501st member!

I believe Galactic Armory files comply with current CRL requirements.

Yes, after Galactic Armory made adjustments to the files earlier this year they will meet Lvl 1 requirements if finished properly (sanding filling etc.)

I am starting the 3D print of the armor. My question is, whether the decals on the helmet must be a kind of sticker, or may be painted as well? And where do I get the proper template?

They can be stickers, or waterslide decals. I believe Trooperbay still makes the stickers. If you really want to paint them, you can but it doesn't make them "more accurate". I believe the originals used waterslide decals. Building the helmet can be tough, go easy on yourself. :tb1:

Next question. Does the holster have a visible gap between the front part and the base? Or does the paint cover those? The pictures I found aren't explicit on that...

I'm not sure I completely understand your question but I'll try to answer. The holster is indeed 2 pieces. The main body (the part next to the boot) and the section that wraps around the blaster itself to hold it in place (blaster cover). The blaster cover fits into a slot on the main body on one side and is usually riveted to the main body on the other side. I think the part that you're wondering is about the area where the blaster cover is riveted and meets the main body.

This is probably the clearest shot of the inside of the holster without the blaster.

The material used for the pouches is totally different from what is used in the drop box straps.

Level 1 of the CRL calls for "Drop boxes connect to the belt via white textile straps." This means that the straps can be materials such as polypro, elastic, nylon, or cotton. They should not be fabricated from cotton canvas.

Level 2 is more specific and calls for "Dropbox straps are 1.5 inches (38mm) wide and made of white cotton webbing."

You are looking for 1.5" white cotton webbing, for example, this: https://www.amazon.com/Cotton-Webbing-Bags-Clothes-Pet-Collars-Totes-DIY-Supplies/dp/B0CNJP4JFB
