Zlevey Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Hello everyone, Last month after a two plus year journey I finally became an official member of the 501st with the approval of my Death Trooper costume. While I absolutely love my DT kit and just got it approved for level 2 certification, I am already looking to my next project Before I pull the trigger on anything I wanted to put a shopping list together and run in past the group. My goal is to achieve level 2 "Lancer" certification so I am hoping the group can call out any items to avoid or recommend better options that might be available. Ideally, I would like to purchase as close to finished parts as I can. Here is what I put together so far. Please let me know what I missed. Helmet and Armor Studio Creations - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 8/19/24 (ASSEMBLED Scout Armor and Helmet Kit ARMOR AND HELMET ARE ASSEMBLED, READY-TO-WEAR OUT OF THE BOX.) Boots Crowprops - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 10/07/24 Gloves Wampa Wear - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 7/20/24 Soft Goods (Cummerbunds, Pouches, Flak Vests, Codpieces, Flight Suits, Boots) KriptonTop on etsy - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 10/09/24 EC-17 Hold-Out Blaster BlasterWorks - Ordered 7/15/24| Received 7/22/24 Biker Scout Satchel - BrodustrialProps Etsy - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 7/20/24 Thanks to everyone in advance. I am looking forward to pulling the trigger on items and start building. This is almost the same set up I went with besides going the ROTJ rout. I’m still waiting on some things like the armor. I also went with pre assembled set. When receiving the assembled armor was it assembled to the CRL standards or were there modifications that needed to be made? The build looks great! Your weathering is spot on!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

I only had to make one change to make it align with the Mandalorian Scout CRL level 1 basic standards. - The Studio Creations pre assembled set has an addition strap on the knee armor. Luckily Kurt was amazing and let me ship them back and he sent me knew ones without the second strap. If he hasn't shipped yours yet, contact him quick and see if he can exclude the second strap - The only other change I made was cutting away the white elastic that went around the connection point for the chest and back piece. This wasn't needed and I didn't like the look of it. (This is totally optional). Let me know if you have any other questions. 1 Quote

I’m going for a ROTJ imperial scout so I do believe the second strap would be required for my build; but all the same thank you for the information. I saw in a few (what I’m guessing are older pictures) of some pre assembled armor from SC that had an abundance of rivets in the belt and was a bit concerned. I did reach out to Kurt to request it be done to CRL standards. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the quality of the armor and I’m super excited to get this project started! How was the weathering process on the ABS to cloth? I’ve seen so many different ABS weathering technics and tutorials I’ve got a pretty good idea on how I’m going to do some weathering on the armor once I get it, but truth me told I’m horrified of weathering the cloth parts and ruining them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk yes, weathering on the cloth is completely different. With abs you can wipe it off if you mess up. With cloth you can't, start with a tiny amount and build it up to get the desired affect. I highly recommend testing on an old shirt or something first. 1 Quote
Zlevey Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Thanks again! I’ve bee practice some techniques on weathering an old iron man helmet I’ve had laying around. I was planing on doing the same with the cloth and mess up some old cloths and rags. I’m very much a measure 1000 and cut once slowly kind of guy so I’m doing all my research and question asking now so I have a really solid game plane on all of this. I’m going to start off for basic approval and then do any fine tuning and modding I may have to do to go for level 2 approval.I really appreciate your insight!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
