Wayne and Jacqui's Mando Scout Trooper Build

Recommended Posts

My wife and I bought the Walts scout trooper a couple years ago, but never got around to building it. A couple weeks ago I pulled the box out of the garage and took it to a build party in Lake Worth FL. With help from a biker scout from Miami, I was able to get the majority of the armor pieces roughly trimmed out. Thank you Nico!

This past weekend I meet up with at a local build party in Winter Park FL and met up with another biker scout. After alot of talk discussing the CRLs of each of the different types, we decided we are going to go with the Mandalorian version. We also got to work on taking the rough trimmed armor and really getting it smoothed out. Thank you to Stryker and Delta for all the help! You guys went above and beyond helping us, we cant thank you enough.

Nice work with your build progress.

Just a question, but did you get the helmets from WTF as well? If so you should be aware of this impending deadline:

Yes, I was made aware of the upcoming ban on the Walt's helmet. That is why I initially started working on our scout armor hoping I could beat the deadline.

Unfortunately we ran into a problem getting my wife's Mandalorian Mercs costume approved so I had to switch gears and work on that alot more than I had expected and I didnt get to work on the scout troopers like I had wanted. I know that I wont be able to make that August 10th deadline.

So now I will be looking at other helmets to buy/build instead. Is there a list of helmets that work for the mandalorian version or are the helmets the pretty much the same?

Any approvable ROTJ helmet will work for the Mando scout as well. Kropserkel. Studio Creations, RS, Mon Cal etc.

I just purchased black flight suits and biker scout gloves from Wampa Wear this morning for my wife and I. There is another armor party later this month. We are making slow but steady progress with our goal of being approved by the end of the year.

I bought the p37 bag from amazon and the badge from etsy. I just ordered the replacement strap belt from amazon and a set of d rings. I should be able to get the chicago screws at my local hardware store.

Military Double Prong Canvas Belt, Heavy Duty Army Pistol Grommet Two Hole 1.75" (Khaki - Size X-Large) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F1915MX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ErRcEbBNV3M5G

Can I just use a dremel and cut off the double prongs, the loop keeper, and the spiner on the buckle, and just use the buckle as one of the D rings for attaching to the bag?

The rings were narrower than that, but for the attachment you can just cut the whole buckle portion off. You just need to fold both ends over and secure them with chicago screws.

We went to an armor party yesterday and worked on our back armor tanks and getting them to align/fit properly. It took us alot of trial and error but I think we are mostly there. I think there will only need to be some minor tweaking once we go to put it all together. Big thanks to @Stryker_412 and Delta for making sure we were doing it right. I dont know if we could have done it without you two.

Not a whole lot to update lately, but I got the notification that my cummerbund and neck seals have shipped. I should get them by mid October. I also ordered boots from @Chrisx909x so the costume is coming together.

I think I will now focus on the attachment straps/nylon/velcro items.

Our cummerbunds came in a couple days after I made that post. I think I got lucky and had super fast shipping from KriptonTop.

I just had a memory on Facebook that I had ordered these kits 4 years ago and they have been sitting in my hot Florida garage ever since. I wanted to ask if these pieces are good enough to use or if I need to get newer versions.

There's quite a bit of mold flash and remnants on those. With proper finishing, those greebs will clear, though it's going to take some sanding to finish the edges and the undersides.

If you want to save yourself some time and energy, you can get a set from Studio Creations: https://www.studiocreations.com/howto/bikerscout/forsale_bike_replacementparts.html

Same as what Chopper said!

They need a lot of sanding.

Also, my opinion only - WTF isn’t the best quality parts. At least you received them- I was shorted on the tank topper and he still never sent it.
I simply ordered all new greeblies from Studio Creations and they’re clean and ready to go. Will save you a lot of time too.

the piece that goes on the tank is missing a recessed circle. is that ok? I have the 2 bolt things, but not want appears to be connected to them.

Yes, that's fine. The recess shouldn't be there, but some vendors put it there to help with drawing the white circle.

You'll need something to keep your bolts in place. The ones in the photo are just the nuts used by the 3M rotator bolts. They're on the inside of the helmet, so it doesn't matter what's used.

After a couple minutes of sanding. Is this close?

I can't tell how much of the underside has been ground down, particularly on the tank topper, but the rest looks fine.

It also looks like there's some bubbles and pin holes in the casts. You should try and fill those with apoxiesculpt or other filler putties.
