Helmet (and other) Questions...

I know I’m jumping around here, but now I have a chest strap question. My other method was not working, following a Lancer build. I thought I needed a double strap look on each side. Am I ok with just a single strap on each side, no stitches or anything, just one strap velcroed to the inside front and back? From what I’m reading in the CRL, I only need the correct strap type and width to connect.

The tank? Yes, it looks fine from that angle. What about the other angles?

Put a washer under that rivet.

Yeah, the rivet’s just there to hold in place for now to line it up for pics and the bottom rivet. And I’m putting the half inch elastic strap in, too. Here are other angles.

Getting close. Keep in mind I was dressing myself, so it’s tough getting it all neat. I need to connect my upper arms to the shoulder bells and sew the Velcro on for the codpiece. Doing the holster today and hopefully the helmet next weekend.

For basic, I don't see a whole lot that needs addressing.

Flip your knee armor over, unless you're planning on doing a mando scout.

I'd raise your cod up maybe an inch, or an inch and a half. Also, you might want to add some more padding to your cod to get rid of the bunching.

Oh yeah, I must have had the knees flipped - it's tough dressing in this, and that was the last thing I put on - still not practiced on it yet!  I can put on a TK in no time now - guess I need practice on this one.  I'll have someone here to help dress me when I take my approval pics.  Speaking of which, can I attach my upper arms to the shoulders before approval?

Also, do people put padding inside of the knee armor to keep it from rubbing?  Thanks !  :)

Some people do, but I never found that I needed it.

I padded my knees because I have a tendency to kneel down so the kids can get close and it makes it a bit more comfortable for me. Typically the strapping keeps the knees from moving about much when walking so I've never had a problem there.

Ok, it’s helmet time. I’m concerned about the blinders, if that’s what you call it. I’ve laid the cap on to the back, no trimming or attaching yet. That part looks ok. But, when I try to line up the blinders, it looks pretty poor - quite off on the vertical alignment between the blinders and the back of the helmet. I’m think maybe I need to trim - see photos.

That's normal to see and even the movie helmets weren't perfect. It's the visor and it does look like you'll need a bit of trimming, on the red side, to get it to sit right. Take it in small increments trim, check, trim, check, etc. You can use the Scoutopedia, found in the BIker Scout HQ thread, as a reference. I linked on of the helmet pics below.

I'm about to freaking give up on this darn helmet.  The Kropserkel tutorial is not helpful for attaching the visor and faceplate - the shapes/cuts of mine are totally different.  And it seems my faceplate needs major trimming to fit  This is certainly not getting done in time for our big Con - very dissappointed.  I'm still going as TK, but wanted this one done.

Any help with another helmet tutorial for the SC kit?

I'm taking my helmet (unfinished) to the Con to compare it to some completed ones, but for now, I am quitting.

What you've shown so far looks pretty good to me.  It's normal to have to trim the visor up a bit, to get closer to that curve.  I believe the Kropserkel tutorial mentions this as well, and notes that even once you get it so it closes up nicely while closed, you'll likely need to trim it even more so you can actually swivel it up properly, without hitting the top of the helmet dome.  So this is all normal stuff.  You can do it. :)

My man...

The SC helmet is a little wonky.  It is on the budget and of things.  The KS even moreso, but they are similar enough that the build methods are almost identical.

No tutorial is going to walk you through every bit of minutiae involved in a build. You will get a general idea and need to extrapolate from there.

Do not chase perfection with this build.  You'll never get it with a budget helmet and even the ones in the film had their share of wonkiness.

Helmets ARE tough for sure.  And one of the reasons you don't see a lot of build threads for them is that's one item a lot of folks get premade.   But they are there.  Check the WIP forum or the Armor/Helmet forum.

My helmet (sc) was sticking too far out as well, I trimmed the edges so that it would leave less gap on the sides.
