Hey gang,

I recently bought and printed this scout helmet from Galactic Armoury and was wondering if someone was able to tell me if it’d pass approvals?

I printed it before joining the 501st so I didn’t realise that certain shapes and indents weren’t allowed.

It does have the decals imprinted into the PLA but I can always fill them with putty during the sanding process, that’s if this helmet is ok.

(Uploaded pics through Imgur as the photo sizes were too large, hope this is ok)

Thanks guys,

Cheers from Australia,

Lachy

The trapezoids on the upper rear of the helmet will need to get filled in. Also the indents above the eyeslot and below the eyeslot will need to get filled in as well. Those are meant to be decals, not indented details. 😁

From the photos you've posted, the rest of the helmet seems ok. Once properly finished.

Haha yeah that’s what immediately worried me once I started reading the CRL 😂

But great, that’s an easy fix.

I was also concerned with thickness, or lack there of, of the outer walls of the ear curves/sections. One, for accuracy, and two, for how sketchy it’ll be when trying to run a hot knife through the plastic inside to make the ear holes. I’d hate for it to melt through and ruin the print 🥲

Do you think the ears look ok? Not too thin walled?

Ah, that was not clear in the photos you posted. The angle is funny, but I can't see a big issue with the thickness of the ear for basic. There's no ear hole at all though? It's just flat? If so, then yes, that's going to be an issue and you'll need to carefully cut and sand the ear holes out of the print.

Oh sorry yeah my bad, it wasn’t the greatest angle!

But no there is the beginning of an ear hole, but it comes to an end about an inch in. I would just have to remove that “wall” that’s inside the canal to make it a continuous hole. Hoping I’ll have a deft hand when it comes to that 😂

@Chopper out of curiosity, which vendor did you go through for your approved helmet?

My helmet is from Strider. Not many were made, though I have an RS on the shelf as well.

There are a number of options if you're looking for a helmet. You can peruse some of the makers in this thread:
