JohnReillis
Hello again everyone, long time no see! Covid and life happened, I took a lot of delay on my plans of joining the 501st, and sadly took on some weight ๐ So while I'm shedding it, I started planning what needs to be done. 1st, finding a way for my armor to stay in places. I was thinking velcro, classic, but as anyone tried with magnets ? And 2nd..I have a small problem with my bucket. The thing hasn't left it's box since back then, and was well packed in bubble wrap and plastic, and I noticed it has paint scratches at the back. Weirdly enough the paint seems to be stuck inside inn the cardboard, so I have absolutely no idea what happened here... Being very strick with things being in good shape, I'm a bit bummed to say the least!ย My question is : will it be an issue for approval? It's actually not flaking as much as the image makes it look. I can lighty scratch with my nail and it's not moving, so I'm even more clueless about what happened at all. But it's not like I can paint that back. The inside of my box..Which dosn't make any senses since it's always in the plastic wrap. ๐คจ
BikerScout007
I would be surprised if your GML thought it was anything more than some weathering.ย ย

Aradun
John, itโs great to see you back at it brother! There are a few scouts who have used magnets, perhaps Chopper recalls who they are. Their names elude me at the moment. Check out this thread for some ideas on how to keep your kit nice and tight while trooping:http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/w18894-some-tips-for-keeping-your-scout-costume-together-while-trooping/As for the helmet issue, I think you can get away with weathering it. Youโve got the dirty version anyway so lightly sanding the edges with 400-600 grit so that no more paint peels away and misting the area with some black spray paint, and you should be good. Chopper may have others suggestions so stay tuned!

I was at Generation Star Wars last week end, small Star Wars convention in France, it was great, and it really gave me the motivation I needed to get back properly into it! I think I'll do some tests with magnets for fun, but velcro seems like a relatively easy solution!ย I'm "worried" that magnet could hang low because of the weight distribution, compared to velcro that are spread over a bigger area, but it's maybe not an issue. And yeaaah...I think I would be scared to do that and screw it up haha ๐ง it's a good idea though... Do we know what kind of white paint is used here actually on RS buckets? ย
Chopper
I can tell you that the RS Props paint color is RAL 9010. That said, I would leave it. The way the paint chipped like it did means that it's going to be a beast to try and paint over and look right. Yeah you could sand it and then paint, but you'll likely end up just having to paint the entire bucket in order to get an even coat and that's a lot of work. ย
JohnReillis
Yeah that's my concern, getting it to be invisible is pretty much impossible, with my skills at least. Could it be better than the damages? Who knows..Don't think I'm trying anything unless it gets way worse, or it's being an issue for approval. My helmet is the red label, and it appears like I have a big head ๐ The ABS would probably have more give, so it's not totally out of the question that I get one later down the line, and turn mine into full time display. Scrapping my temples to put it on isn't fun. Thanks for the paint name! Reassuring to know at least!
