Guest UNIT 3966 Posted August 7, 2007 Share Posted August 7, 2007 Have the powers that be decided on a camo pattern for the soft armor? A boot for the basis of modification? A glove? Are the pouches soft or hard? A gun or guns? Just wondering, because I want to get started on this costume but I do not want to buy things for it only to find out that it will not be accepted as BARC standard equipment. To answer your question, 'the powers that be' have yet to set much in stone with regards to the BARC. The guidelines I would go with is just start working on it yourself. Then tune and tweak as things get decided and set in stone. Rule of thumb, "does it look like the troopers in the movies???" I'm guessing the authority on this would ultimately be Thomas, the LMO. As far as BARC standard equipment goes, I'm guessing the BARC will be treaded the same way other starwars costumes have been treated in the past. If you can get some people to say "Wow, that is pretty good!", you are well on your way to having a solid BARC trooper. Let's look at the Biker Scouts... No one started out their first time with Lancer Status. It took a long time to get there. There was alot of trial & error and alot of research. As many of us have seen, pghfett has posted his helmet and armor WIP pictures. All I have to say is "DDDAAAAMMMNNNN...., that is some awesome work". If his work is the baseline-standard for BARC troopers, we're all Screwed!! I don't want to take anything from pghfett; he is a Craftsman!!! But, very few of us are at that caliber of skill. We are left with three options: (1) Wait for someone to develop a kit and tutorial, (2) Tackle the project yourself and head down the trial & error route, or (3) Beg an plead to pghfett to sell you his... TB-1019 Posted August 9, 2007 Share Posted August 9, 2007 I didn't want to respond first to this thread because I am definitely not an authority on the BARC troopers, but one of the big issues that the BARC crew has been wrestling with is the camo pattern. Basically, no current real-world camo pattern looks close to what the BARC's wear so any solution would involve one of two things: 1. Dyeing or otherwise altering an existing camoflauge pattern to make it come close. - PROS: Cheaper, better availablity to the masses, a DIY job. - CONS: Accuracy and uniformity suffers, you would have a disparity of aesthetic look between troopers (i.e. no two will look alike). 2. Creating a new, original camoflauge pattern from scratch. - PROS: Uniformity, accuracy is improved. - CONS: Expensive to R&D, then the difficulties in manufacturing a custom textile are manifested. I figured it would get a response, and low and behold..... LOL I know that I may be coming off as impatient, but it is just the excitement I have for the project. I hope I have not come off like a total (that donkey thing again), I am just itching to get going. The only part of the costume that I can handle on my own is the soft armor, gun kit, pouches, boot's, ect. I am no injection mold specialist or sculptor so I am at the mercy of the experts here (as well as being in complete awe of their work) in those areas of the costume, and was just seeking some clarification on the aspect's of the costume that I can handle. I hope I have not offended anyone with my exuberance, and if I have, I apologize. I guess I'll just start trying things out and post pics of what I come up with and go from there......
