Raylen
Over a decade in the legion, and still there's always more improvements to make. I have two helmet questions... 1) The sides where the chin straps would run (I've never used one) cuts in fairly sharply on my bucket. I wear glasses and its always been a real squeeze to shove the glasses past and sometimes its easier to flip up the visor and put them on after the bucket. Well, I now wear hearing aids which adds a layer of complication and junk around my ears to it. I've thought about hacking off the bottom of the chin strap area where its tightest. However my bucket is fiberglass and I'm concerned I'll just have a jagged edge that can never really be PROPERLY repaired. 2) Being fiberglass, my bucket has some weight to it and a lot of it towards the front. So I'm often having to push it up at the chin and it sags down while wearing it. So, as stated in my first questions, I've never had a chin strap. Does it really help prevent forward/back shifting? Right now I have padding from a hockey helmet inside but wondering if I could find something more like motorcycle helmet padding where its a tighter fit. Again, all the "stuff" around my ears doesn't help. And I'm adding a wireless mic inside now too! Hoping some folks have suggestions. Harbinger
Can only weigh in #2. Full disclosure, my bucket is an RS ABS 5-piece, not fiberglass. When I don’t wear the chin strap I get more ‘wobble’ but it doesn’t really seem to effect front-to-back balance, I have to ply around with the tightness of the hard hat liner to address that. Today, I ran a temporary elastic strap through the bucket. Although the natural direction it points toward is under may jaw, if I push it forward over my chin, it surprisingly seems to help! I'd need a chin cup though to hold it in place. Do you know where I can get one? Also, it another thing to push my face through. Can you tell me how you run the elastic through all the parts so its adjustable?
Aradun
Here’s a photo of my set up with an RS bucket that is fiberglass like yours, but with an abs faceplate and visor. It’s contrast and brightness are adjusted so that you can see the strap better.Where the strap enters the bottom of the bucket, it comes up the inside to the top slit, and can be either glued in or velcroed at the top.As for where to get a cup, you can check with studiocreations:https://www.studiocreations.com/howto/bikerscout/forsale_bike_replacementparts.htmlYou’ll find the chin cup at the bottom of the page.I too wear glasses and the fiberglass bucket is not forgiving when trying to get it over your head. I too need to take my glasses off first. I find it comes of much easier that going on. The strap helps. I do not have any padding or hard hat liner and do fine but YMMV. The helmet is lined with a light padding about 1/4” and covered in black fabric by RS to prevent the fiberglass from coming in contact with the skin. Raylen
interesting... i was running the strap down the outside and across. i'll have to try this. Silly I didn't think of studio creations since thats where my armor is from (but not the bucket)
Aradun
You’ll find doing it as pictured above will give you a tighter and more comfortable fit than running it straight across the bottom.
