Hi there! Long time fan and am so excited to be taking steps towards 501st membership.

I have a WTF armor kit on order, have build and paint lined up, and soft good lined up. I have acquired ec17 and dlt19 blasters.

any other tips for me?

Where are you located? Your absolute best bet is to find somebody in your area that has built a ROTJ TB - preferably to Lancer - to help walk you through your build.

Beyond that, you have already taken your first step into a larger world. Welcome to Pathfinders, there are lots of great resources and helpful people here that can help you get the most out of your build.

What make are your soft goods and blasters? Are you aiming for L2 or just basic approval?

The soft goods and small blaster Are being provided by somebody that WTF referred to me. The larger blaster is being purchased through blaster factory. Level one approval is what I am shooting for initially, but might go to level two at some point. Thank you so much for the help!

Only issue there is that WTF armor is not capable of being brought to Lancer without parts being replaced.   As far as ROTJ accuracy goes, WTF is about as low as it gets.

Please check our Lancer armor advisory here:

Happy to help you get your kit built and get you to basic approval!  But just wanted to be perfectly upfront about the road ahead, should you pursue Level 2.

Man this is so tough. I selected WTF specifically on the advise of existing troopers stating that they were the most likely to comply. Is L1 possible with a WTF build?

im not familiar with the term Lancer. Is that what L2 is?

Correct -- Lancer is Level 2.  If you only decide to build to basic, you'll be fine.

We have a comparison thread of all the major armor makers vs. an ROTJ production kit, you can see for yourself how they all stack up:

Welcome to the Pathfinders. Personally, I recommend building to Level 2 out of the gate. It would be much easier than have to back track on stuff, especially if it comes to softgoods. All it would take is a tiny bit of extra effort to achieve it. I hope you have fun on your armor journey.

I guess my issue there is that I’ve already sunk the money for the WTF kit. If that isn’t likely to make Lancer, I don’t know if I’m willing to take that loss this early on (first build). Have any thoughts on that?

I forgot about the WTF not making Lancer. Is it too late to cancel the order and get a refund? You could get a Studio Creations kit.

Possibly, but I’m a bigger guy (6’2” about 215ish) and heard that the studio creations kit had a helmet that was on the smaller side. A member of my local garrison mentioned that wtf was probably a better fit. Thoughts?

The WTF helmet is....not great.   Besides being a really awkward shape, it's a very difficult build and it's the number one thing people come to us about when they are running into issues.

The SC helmet IS small, but your height doesn't mean it won't fit.  May help to see if someone in your future Garrison can let you try theirs on.

There are other helmets out there, such as the Kropserkel, that are inexpensive, easy to build and for larger heads:

As far as accuracy of the WTF kit... if you are interested in going down "The Mandalorian" Biker Scout path, the WTF armor is fine for Level 2.  As that was the kit that was used on the show (not the helmet though), it has no accuracy issues.   The problem with the WTF kit is how it compares to the ROTJ Scout.

We have almost the same build. I'm 6'2" and currently weigh 221. I have a Studio Creations kit, and have achieved Lancer status. I do think the helmet is small, but it works for me, and heard that they are working on a new sculpt of the helmet.

Oh very interesting. I'm eager to see what Jeff rolls out.

If I went the mando route (instead of Rotj) would that mean I’d need a different helmet? Or will the WtF helmet qualify for level 2?

I guess where I’m at is my primary motivation for 501st pursuit (apart from being in a group that I can talk Star Wars with) is doing charity trooping. I volunteer with Make A Wish and a ton of my wish kids LOVE Star Wars. Would love to be a part of that and level 1 would satisfy that for me i think.

Sounds good!  Give this thread a read:

Ultimately, you have to do what will make you happy. You could always shoot for level 2 down the road if you change your mind. I would recommend doing research while you wait for your armor to arrive, to prepare for what work will need to be done.

Mickey is right on point because that's what we're here for and there are so many, including us, that have gone down that path. One thing I can also recommend is to reach out to your local Garrison for support as well. They are the ones that will be approving you to join so it's best to also reach out to them. As your profile indicates that you're in WA your garrison will be Garrison Titan [https://garrisontitan.com/] . Take a few minutes to join their forums and introduce yourself and mention that you're also over at the Pathfinders Detachment and learning the ropes. We're here to help you be successful so be sure to let us know if you need help.

Thank you! I’ve been in contact with Titan and they’ve been super helpful too. Looking forward to getting my kit and starting my build!
