I screwed up

Recommended Posts

A couple months ago I ignorantly bought scout trooper armor on Etsy for 300 dollars. What I didn’t know at the time was that it was made of fiberglass and has inaccurate parts (forearm pieces, chest straps don’t line up, some pieces are larger or smaller than each other). I could have bought from a much more reputable buyer for about 200 more dollars. Now I am stuck with this fiberglass, inaccurate, and slightly messy armor. I am lost and don’t know what to do. Do any of you guys have any tips or suggestions and have any of you experienced similar? I have already requested a refund but it has been over a month now and I cannot refund it.

(I originally posted this on the 501st legion subreddit but they redirected me here for extra help)

In the last few years, some of it due to 3D printing, there's been an explosion of people selling armor kits online, and some are better than others.

Looking at the kit you posted, there's not much you can really do with it that's going to make it approvable for the 501st.  Some of the pieces may be salvageable, but given that it's fiberglass, it may be tough to work with it and probably more trouble than it's worth.  And even if you kept a few of the better pieces, it would probably be tough to sell the ones that need work if you aren't selling a whole kit.

Keep in mind -- everyone who buys Star Wars armor is not trying to be in the 501st.  Some people just want a kit for cosplay, conventions, or even Halloween.  I would try to sell it on ebay or something -- being honest that the kit is not 501st approvable, and then pick up a kit from one of our approved vendors:

We have all made mistakes like this, don't feel bad.  The best thing to take from this is it's important to slow down, do your research and make buying decisions based on the best information.

Make sure to check out the armor comparison thread too. It helps to know how different vendors match up to the original, and will give you a sense of how the finished product will look. In the end it’s all about budge and how much you’re willing to spend.

I had the same problem with a Boba Fett helmet from an Etsy store. Even though Iit wasn’t my goal to become a 501st member with a Boba Fett costume o wanted an accurate bucket. It was fiberglass and I tried to fix it. Terrible! The result was ok, but not worth the time and sweat and tears I put in it! as Mickey and Daniel said try to sell it on ebay but be honest that it won‘t match the 501st criteria. With Halloween standing in the frontdoor I guess your chances are not bad. With the money and maybe a little bit extra you get an approvable armor and you keep yourself from a lot of stress. I learned it this way!

Will, we've all made one of those "bugger I screwed up moments"

You'll be able to re-sell it quite easy.

Wishing you all the best

Thanks for the help but I already found a guy that wants to buy the armor off of me!
