I second the kudos on the tank trim you did. That came out really nice.

Working on the helmet face and visor next.  Slowly working on trimming a bit at a time to get the fit right for the left and right visor to the face then helmet base.

Trying to sort out the length of the edge all around the visor (front, bottom, back), I can't seem to easily find reference notes/measurements in the forums.  My guess is about 10mm, is there a standard that should be followed?

Rough trim lines in pencil below (sorry if hard to see, had trouble with the camera focus).

I have the eyes trimmed out of the face.  How does this look?  Any feedback on the outline?

The visor cut looks okay.

Since there are a lot of different scout helmet vendors, each with different sculpts, we don't have exact standard measurements for the helmet cuts. Anything I could offer from the RS or screen used helmets wouldn't translate well to the WTF helmet. Where your pencil marks are now seem like a good place to start.

You can get a decent sense of the specifics of the WTF helmet build in this thread, here:

WIP update: Doing the tank decals now.  I've taped the rank bars and top line for now with pics below (will tweak the side lines once top is set).  I know all kits are different, so trying to eyeball the placement based on CRL pics and the Scoutopedia.  Looks like it should be halfway and the rank bars are close to the top line.  Looking for feedback on this please.

The Boots; at the top-back of the calf, they have the "thumb tab/loop" (not sure what the forums call it).  I want to add this to mine.  It's not noted in the CRL that this is a requirement, but it is seen in the CRL picture (Scoutopedia pic is below for reference with the "thumb tab/loop" in red).

  • Is there an intended/recommended size (top-down and left-right measurements) for this tab?
    • It looks like 1 inch by 1 inch.
  • How have others attached this "thumb tab/loop" to the calf? It doesn't look like it's part of the Velcro vertical stitching.  Is it just glued to the inside?

On my boots the tap is attached on the inside.

Thanks, can you tell if it's sewn or glued in?  And about how big is the loop part exposed on the outside?

Yes, sorry, I just noticed you're in the UK.  Thank you.

The thumb loop is not a requirement. It is optional.

If you choose to include it, it is typically sewn in place between the velcro and the vinyl.

Holster:  Slowly trimming down the Holster to fit my EC-17 from Polymer Armory.  Working on the pencil line for the humps, how does this line look?

  • The Holster back sides/edges will get trimmed smaller to fit the boot, just wanted to get front part done first.
  • The side with the vents/slits will get closer to the boot side of the Holster when I trim some more.

There isn't much of a big dip on the side, that's more an effect from the curve of the part. See photos from scoutopedia and my own approximate markup in green.

Thank you, I appreciate the additional eyes.  That "curve affect" has been messing with me when looking at Scoutopedia and other pics.

Boot Dog Bone:  I have the "concave curve along the bottom edge" and the "ends above the toe strip on both sides" (my toe strip is 1/2 inch as well), but before I glue it, I'm looking for feedback if it looks ok/correct.  I appreciate it.

Helmet: working on final trimming of the visor.

  • How high does the visor/face flip up?
  • is it a full 90 degrees?
  • is any of it supposed to rub against the helmet top or do the bolts help keep it from falling back down?

The visor doesn't have to flip up 90s degrees. We never see them flipped up on screen so there's no standard for it. I think mine *can* go up to 90 degrees but i rarely ever bring it up more than 45, like if I need to drink water or something, and I don't ever try to lock it in place. The rotator bolts are a major stress point on the plastic, especially when the visor is flipped up, so I try to avoid it if I can.

The top edge of the face plate should not rub against the top of the helmet, there should be enough clearance for it to move up cleanly.

The WTF is going to be it's own thing in terms of dimensions, but you can get a sense of what the screen helmets looked like from the top, here:

Ok...I finished my build over the weekend and last night submitted all my pics to my GML's requesting basic approval.  Wish me luck.  Below is a comparison of me on the left with the CRL header pic on the right.  I think I'll be ok for basic approval.
