Modifying my fight suit with a coverall base.  Since no formal patterns exist for the riding patch I used some images and constructed a rough pattern and cut it out of felt as a mock up.  What are the thoughts here?  does it need to go up to the waistline?  Any general feedback is appreciated.

Overall, for a front side riding patch, it looks good. Have you checked to see how it looks when you're wearing it? Have you made a pattern for the rear side patch yet?

The patch doesn't need to go up to the waistline, but you just generally want to avoid having the squared edges peaking out from the sides of the codpiece.

Thanks.  I haven't made the back patch yet.  I just tried the suit on (it still needs some tapering in the leg) and the patches felt good.  The blue tape (the bottom of the blue tape) is the top of my knee cap.  Is the patch two long?  I thought I read it was supposed to be 2 to 3 inches above the knee. But from the top of the knee?

There can be some overlap between the suede and the knee armor and from the images you've shown the patch doesn't look too long. Strict measurements like 2-3" from the knee aren't in the CRL b/c that'd look pretty different for different people, depending on their height.
