Chopper Posted September 8, 2021 Share Posted September 8, 2021 The flat metal bolts from SC are fine for basic clearance, but if you want to go for Level 2, then you need to use the proper 3M style bolts depicted below. Chopper Posted September 8, 2021 Share Posted September 8, 2021 Either will work. ABS paste, which you make yourself from any scrap trimmings + acetone will blend and bond better. That and you can also use it to close the gap between the back and the dome portions, but that's up to you. Otherwise, you can use the Oatey ABS cement that's commonly sold in hardware stores. It left the ABS soft in places where it got trapped between the layers and really made a lot of work for me. I think the Rust-oleum and or the bondo reacted it with it as well. I ended up using J-B Weld Plastic Bonder to fill the seam and probably should have used that to glue the top and bottom together. I can't speak on ABS paste as I have never made it. It will need to be replaced, as the CRL states: "Lens is black in color and obscures wearer's eyes." Most of us use a welding shield such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/Hobart-770580-Shield-Replacement-Shaded/dp/B002VECKRO You can cut several visors from it with scissors. Hiker Scout Posted October 7, 2021 Author Share Posted October 7, 2021 helmet is coming along nicely. Got my face shield fixed in place, respiratory attached to front and ears cut out. The front flip up vizor is attached using the 3M bolts, However it doesnt seem to sit down and wants to pop up slightly. I see pic on the scoutopedia that show some velcro/ webbing on the side of helmet under the vizor/face flip. Anyone else use velcro to keep the visor down and in place when trooping? Chopper Posted October 7, 2021 Share Posted October 7, 2021 If you're referring to the photo below, what you're seeing is the way that the elastic for the chinstrap is threaded through the side portions of the helmet. That said, a number of people have used those little circular velcro dots that you can get at the hardware store to help hold the faceplate closed. Ok I do plan to do the chin strap to hold in place. The chin strap is options. However if present must it be threaded as in the picture above? or can i just attach to the inside?
