woobiee
To you Lancer experts or Lancer approved members! The CRL for Lancer requires 1/8" rivets, for example the knee armor or the boot holster, etc. But does anyone know if the 1/8" is for the diameter of the hat (the hole) or the head (the overall diameter)? The rivets that were used for my armor have 1/8" sized holes, with an overall diameter of 5/16." Will this satisfy the Lancer requirement? Thanks! BikerScout007
The rivets you bought should say 1/8" 3mm on the packaging. Those are the ones you want. What we are trying to avoid are the large flange rivets that people have suddenly started using for some unknown reason the past few years.
Chopper
This is what you're looking for in picture form: The 1/8" measurement is the diameter of the shaft, not the pull/grip range, nor the measurement of the flange. You do want to use a small flange rivet head, which as per your photo, appears to be fine.
woobiee
Thanks all! RS assembled my kit and gave me some extra rivets for the holster so I do not have the original rivet packaging. But it sounds like I am in the clear based on your feedback and illustration!

What are you referring to when you say “flange?” Are you referring to the head (i.e., washer like) portion? I only ask because the rivets size that is recommended refers to the diameter of the hat/body. You can get 1/8” or 3mm rivets with varying diameter heads and if it’s the head diameter that is the issue then perhaps that also needs to be specified. For example, my RS kit did have 1/8” rivets but the head diameter was 3/8” and I had to swap some of those out for 1/8” rivets with a 5/16” diameter head for my Lancer app.I’m in no way trying to muddy the waters here, but this question about head size vs hat/body size has been asked a few times and the response is to go with the hat/body size. The problem with rivet classification is that the head size doesn’t factor into the sizing noted on the packaging.
BikerScout007
Okay let's be 100% clear here. The CRL had to change because people started using larger rivets for whatever reason. Folks here had been using 1/8th rivets with no issues here for years. So we had to address it. 1/8 refers to the diameter. That is what is being specified on the packaging. At least on the bog standard Arrow rivets most of us use:

But the flange in the link provided above is the diameter of the “pan head” portion of the rivet (see “A” in the image below), which in this particular example measures 5/8” and is clearly too wide. When 1/8” rivets are referenced, as above, the links that are being provided are measuring 1/8” at “D” in the figure below. My question is does measurement “A”matter? If I’m understanding everything correctly, it does, and if so what is the size of “A” that is acceptable. 1/8” rivets using “D” to calculate the referenced size in the CRL do come with different sized “A”.Again, I just want to make sure that I understand this for my own edification and more importantly so that I don’t give anyone misinformation. woobiee
If I had to hazard a guess, it kinda sounds like the size of "A" is a bit arbitrary and to stick with 'standard' over the 'large' version of size 1/8" rivet?

Yes, stick with the standard. Large flange rivets weren't used in ROTJ, so we don't use them on the ROTJ Scout. If they showed up on the Mandalorian Scout somewhere, that's a different story. Basically, you can't go wrong with these:
woobiee
Food for thought: Open-end rivets are hollow blind rivets that are pre-assembled onto a headed pin or mandrel. .....In general, open-end rivets come in dome, large-flange, or a 120-degree countersunk head. Yup, looks like we just focus on the 1/8" domed (standard) rivets.

Thanks Mickey for hanging in there and bearing with me brother.
