On behalf of Pathfinders Command, it is my pleasure to welcome Jill "jwnikita" Olsen (TB-71411) to the illustrious ranks of the Lancer scouts!

Great job, @jwnikita!!   Please post a picture of your coolest pose in this thread for addition to the Pathfinders Hall of Fame.  If not, I will take a pic from your application.

Check out TB-71411's application here:

(and no, this is not an April Fools prank!)

Thank you so much! I am honored to be added to the Lancer ranks. I don’t have any cool poses with the upgrades yet but I can share my favorite photo prior to upgrades. It’s from a troop where a very little boy kept pointing to me and running over to this panda. He finally took my hand and led me over to it and when I stood next to it, he squeezed with delight. I am forever known as Panda Scout.

Jill, congratulations! Well deserved and way to persevere. I watched your build with interest and watch you tackle every obstacle that came your way. You’ve done the Empire proud. Welcome to the Lancers!

Thank you everyone for the kind words. You may not know this, but I am visually impaired, so much so that I am legally blind. I’m one of three in the Legion. I lost a lot of visual acuity in 2012 after having uncontrolled and undiagnosed diabetes for quite some time. After another severe complication, I devoted myself to getting healthy. I also promised myself that I would never let my impairment keep me from living a full life. I wasn’t much into costumes for before then but I was led to it by a friend. Being able to troop and support charities and share my personal story has been wonderful. I have encountered several blind or visually impaired individuals at quite a number of events and I’ve been able to share my story with them. It’s strange how things happen to us for a reason.
I try to do as much of the work as I can for building my costumes but sometimes I need to ask my TK Hubby for help. I figure it’s wise to have him use the hot knife and carve tiny areas into my boots. Heaven knows what those would have looked like or how many fingertips I might have lost. the help and support from him, as well as from this board, has kept me going to finish this project. Thank you all.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing that story, it’s inspiring that you care so much about the visual look of your costume though you are visually impaired. It pushes me to care more and strive to have my build meet the same standards
