CrannochDeBacle
Hi everybody, Just getting started on my 501st journey. I’ve been doing some research and pondering the options for a ROTJ scout. I’d appreciate any advice you guys have to give. I’m based in the UK and suspect that it’ll be easier to get something locally produced if possible. I’d be keen to get something as accurate and high quality as possible. I can also see the attraction of getting as much as possible from one supplier - should mean it all works well together. So, I’m very tempted by RS Prop masters. However, I’d like to do some of the fitting and so forth myself. Getting back to costuming and working with my hands is part of the reason for getting involved. Also, I’d like things to fit as well as possible. From their website it looks like RS only do ready to wear out of the box scout armour. Anyone else from the UK done a scout build recently? Any more experienced scouts care to offer some suggestions? Many thanks in advance,Simon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Aradun
Hey Simon, Welcome to the Pathfinders. Excited to have you aboard. I have a RS kit but made all of the soft parts by hand, which wasn't terribly complicated and that's coming from a guy that never used a sewing machine prior to this build. There a ton of great tutorials and WIPs on the forum that can help you construct your own soft parts. Even if you buy them from a vendor you'll most likely have to do some minor tailoring to get them to fit you the way you'd like, especially if your goal is to shoot for Level 2 certification (i.e, Lancer). You can reach out to RS via email to see if they'd send you the armor unfinished. I think there have a few rare instances where they have done that, but it's rare and would definitely only be by request. CfO is another UK based armor maker and their armor is excellent too. https://www.facebook.com/castfromoriginal/ Chef's Creations offers armor and softgoods and is located in the UK. All of his products are made to order and tailored to your measurements for a more custom fit. https://www.chefscreations.co.uk/portfolio-item/biker-scout/ For a complete comparison of Armor available see this thread here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/17774-the-ultimate-armor-comparison-thread/ I'm sure others will chime in, but feel free to follow up with any questions. BikerScout007
Well Dennis beat me to it, but that's pretty sound advice he just posted. RS Props armor is great and if that's in your budget, go for it. If you don't want to do soft goods yourself, Chef is a great vendor to turn to. Besides being in the UK, he also keeps up with the L2 standards and makes sure his stuff meets them. And on top of that, he was Detachment Leader here before me so he knows a little bit how this 501st thing works!
CrannochDeBacle
Thanks for the helpful insights and suggestions. I’ve think I’ve mostly decided what to try but I’ll let things mull over the weekend and read a few more WIPs.I’ll keep you guys posted on any progress Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CrannochDeBacle
Well I finally but the bullet and went ahead and ordered some stuff. I’m getting most of the kit from Chef’s Creations. I’m going to get the helmet pre-assembled but the armour as a kit. I figure I can make sure the armour fits well and have the helmet as a reference for the kind of standard I’m aiming for. The one bit Chef doesn’t do is the gloves so I’ve ordered those from Wampa Wear. I figure it’s probably best to just have a WIP on the UK Garrison forum rather than have one here as well but am happy to do both if you think that’s worthwhile/helpfulThanks again for all the support and adviceSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BikerScout007
Totally up to you! We are happy to help shepherd you through the process but I'm sure you'll get some great advice over at UKG too.
Tantive1
It's well worth doing buddy, I posted pictures of my progress here to get advice and guidance. The sign off and clearance will be done on the UKG side but the knowledge is definitely here and invaluable, especially when you come across issues, I guarantee someone here has a solution.Good shout on getting the lid pre-made, you've saved yourself days of mental torture!
