Retrofire
It is that time of year again… Elections! As Imperial Citizens and Pathfinders, it is your duty to vote! Links will be updated as they become available.Elections Information All information about the elections can be found in the Legion Operations Protocol. This includes how the election is run, timeframes, and qualifications and limitations to run for a position.Operations Protocol: Section 3 ElectionsWho can vote? For Elections, all Active Members may vote and run for a position if they meet the standards in the Legion Charter and the Operations Protocol (review the Qualifications and Limitations). Reserve and Retired members are NOT able to vote or run for a position. NOTE: With COVID-19 impacting trooping in 2020 there might be some of you that missed the census and have gone into Reserve status. If this has occurred you will not be able to vote in the 2021 elections. I would recommend that if is this your situation that you reach out to your GCO and work to get that resolved prior to elections opening. Also be sure to review your 501st profile (member db) and ensure that you show active for the Pathfinders (and any other detachment you are a member of) or you will not be able to vote for that Detachment's DLTime Frames Times in the Operations Protocol are listed in GMT. Please be aware of that, especially when voting. Nominations start the Monday before the first Saturday in February. (Monday, February 1 – Friday, February 5) Question-and-answer phase will be open for 5 days beginning on Saturday and concluding at 11:59pm GMT on Wednesday. (Saturday, February 6 – Wednesday, February 10). Thursday is reserved for candidates' closing statements. (Thursday, February 11) Voting will open at 12:01am GMT on the Friday following closing statements and be available for 5 days, ending at 11:59pm GMT on the following Tuesday. (Friday, February 12 – Tuesday, February 16) Positions being voted on Active 501st members may vote for the Legion Commanding Officer, Garrison Commanding Officer, Squad Leader (only Squad Members), and Detachment Leaders (for detachments you belong too – see information below). Legion Commanding Officer (LCO) – Currently held by Ingeli Hedberg. This position oversees the Legion as a whole. Garrison Commanding Officer (GCO) – This position oversees the Garrison as a whole and has a seat on Legion Council. Squad Leader (SL) – This position oversees the Garrison Squads and reports to the Garrison Commanding Officer. Only members of the Squad can vote on this position. Detachment Leaders (DL) – Currently held by Mickey Bukowski (Bikerscout007). Every member should belong to the detachment that oversees their active costume(s). If the member shows Active with their Detachment in the Membership Database, they can vote for the Detachment Leader.Q&A Period If multiple people are running for the same seat, there will be a Q&A period where members can ask questions that will then be answered by those that are running. This is for all positions. For LCO – This will be on the Legion Forums (https://www.501st.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=168) These are normally moderated by the Legion Captain of the Guard. For GCO & SL (if applicable) – This will take place on your Garrison forumsFor DL – This will be here within the detachment forum for active Pathfinders only. As the Det CoG the role of moderator falls to me.It is time for nominations and to vote – now what?Nominations: Members may nominate active and qualifying members on the voting webpage. Once a member is nominated, they will require another member to second them. The option to second someone will appear below the nomination box. The member that was nominated/seconded then has the option to accept, decline, or do nothing. If the members are accepts, they are in the running for the position. It is possible to have no nominations for a position. If this happens, the previous person will continue on by default. As a common courtesy, please speak to a member before you nominate or second them to verify if they want to run for the position.Voting: The Legion uses a Single Transferable Vote (STV) method for voting. Every eligible voter, in respect of each respective candidate, may cast a single vote that is ranked from their most preferred to their least preferred candidate. The candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and each vote given to that candidate is transferred to other remaining candidates according to the respective eligible voter's states ranked preferences, in proportion to any surplus or discarded votes. The process is repeated by calculation to arrive at a winner that holds more than half of the votes thus cast.

On February 1st, 2021 12:01AM GMT units will NOT be able to modify the member db to change a member status from Active, Reserve, or Retired. Keep in mind that only Active members can vote in the elections as discussed in my first post. I would recommend that all Pathfinders review their member status via the 501st site and check their membership status, active costumes, and detachment affiliations and make any updates necessary prior to the end of the month.
