Armor kit just arrived!

I've been looking over the parts and some video tutorials.. I already notice that the lens is green instead of black. Everything I've seen so far uses black. Got info on a black lens?

Anybody know how the lens clips are even supposed to be installed?

Thanks!

They still giving out a green lens?   I'll have to shoot Jeff a PM!

Most of us use these.  If you space them out right, you can get about 3 lenses out of this sheet:

https://www.amazon.com/Hobart-770580-Shield-Replacement-Shaded/dp/B002VECKRO/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=hobart+welder+lens&qid=1610140851&sr=8-7

I haven't had an SC bucket so I've never used the lens clips, but on the buckets I have had (RS and KS), just hot glue on the sides of the lens (not the top and bottom) works just fine.

Learned a lot from the virtual armor party this past Sunday. Looking forward to more of those.

First photo of progress. Had managed to remove the visor opening and ear openings previously. Now cleaning and sanding. Got the new visor bolts in.

Still need to make the ABS slurry to fill in the gap where the back and top of helmet join. Still plenty to do. I tend to start off slow and do a lot of research.

ABS paste.. After gluing the top and back pieces, I filled in the gap, and used the paste to bond the front edges to the top.

Note: If I had masked off the gap so I could remove any over-application, it would have been a much easier sanding job.

Needs just a little more sanding with some very fine wet/dry grit.

Fitting the parts together. I wish there was more return edge on the visor and front face at the pivot point. I'm going to have to use some spacers to get it looking better.

Hey Sean! Great work so far.

It looks like you might be using the forum to upload and store your images. The forum’s image storage is very very limited in order to keep costs manageable. Most people use the Tapatalk app or an image hosting service. Some even use Dropbox.

My personal recommendation is the Tapatalk app. The free version will allow you to post full resolution photos which will help the armorers see the finer details of your build. There is a limit to the number of images you can post each month but it is a pretty generous allotment. If you find you’re hitting the limit each month the paid version is only a $1.00 per month and has unlimited uploads.

Keep up the great work!

Putting finishing touches on the bucket. Just need to put in the chin strap and helmet padding.

Plans for installing fans, battery, and ducting will wait until after approval.

Looking good! Don’t forget your knee armor needs the upper strap with rivets 1/8”. I’m sure you’re on it, but thought it worth mentioning just in case.

Well it's only needed for Level 2.  So he technically doesn't need it until he puts in his Lancer app.  Which I hope he plans on doing!

I decided to go with IB for the boots. Trying to get this done enough for May 4th and didn't feel like experimenting with boots and vinyl. Very happy with product so far. I think the soles are a bit darker than what I've seen so far, but perhaps they'll fade when I'm stationed on a desert planet.

A few more steps towards completion. Did a bunch more sewing for the shoulder bell straps and got most of the belt and boxes complete. Waiting for the TD tubing to finish curing to the end caps, but the TD is done. (TD pic is upside down) Going to add 25mm snaps to the ends of the box straps to make it easy to put on the belt. Now I just have the major components. Breast and Back to do. Waiting on my coverall to be finished before I start fitting the armor. Haven't added the second elastic strap to the knees yet, but it's on my list of follow ups.

I'm going to have to water bath the chest shoulder straps. They curve in way too much and pull the chest up. Hope I don't ruin it.

Getting close to being done. Coverall is being done by a friend who is a sewing professional. Just finished up the boots. Tomorrow will be armor fitting and adjustment. should be good to go.

Almost done! First fitting pics. Not too bad overall.

I need to bring the back up a bit more.

The belt boxes could be a little higher.

Wondering if I need to trim the shoulder bells and biceps a bit to leave a little more gap. or just move the bells closer to the shoulder straps.

Going to do a bit more work on the shoulder/bell mounting points to keep them in place better.

Hi Sean, overall you look pretty good. There's a few items you should take a look at --

1) Go ahead and bring in your shoulder bells so that they're closer to the shoulder bridges. Don't do any trimming yet. Not a strict measurement, but try and put the bells about 1/2" to 3/4" from the bridges and see how that looks.

2) I don't see the sewn inverted curve on your codpiece, is it there? Also, you might want to loosen the strap a bit to get rid of the "cod crunchy" effect.

3) When put your armor on, try and put your biceps at your 9 and 3 oclock positions, and your forearm armor at the 10 and 2 oclock positions

4) As you said regarding your drop boxes, bring 'em up about 1.5 to 2 inches, so that they're closer to the belt.

And really awesome job on the helmet. I had to look again for a minute to double check that it wasn't an RS.

Great work Sean. Almost there!

Here are the latest pics, which I have send off to my garrison for approval. The cummerbund won't pass Lancer level, but I have the soft goods from IB to make the lancer level components. Just trying to get ready for an upcoming troop.

Nice work finishing up your build. Overall, I think you should be alright for basic approval. Your GML may ask you to correct your left dropbox strap, which is twisted.

I'd also bring in your pouches a bit, but these are minor issues. Good luck!

Thank you for the props! I'll bring in the pouches a bit and untwist the strap on the box.

Argh! those darn straps! I can't tell you how many times I've started taking pics and had to redo them for some miner adjustment!

Or the armor isn't positioned right, or something is off angle.. jeez..
