hausi
Hey guys, this is my first scout lid build. I´ve built it from a Strider V5 kit. I´m going to spare you the building pics, I can only say, man, this was a lot of work and has given me a headache several times. I´m one of those dirty MEPD dudes and over there, we are quite crazy about emulating screen-used helmets, that why I have picked one of the dirtiest helmets I could find on screen: Besides the building process, I also had to learn how these helmets are weathered, tried an airbrush system for the first time but it was fun. Still have to get used to it, the final product is far from perfect and a wee bit too dirty... I just tend to overdoing it with that dirt. Not all of the dirt was applied using the airbrush, I have also used paintbrush which I am actually feeling much more comfortable with. For the final touches I just spraypainted an ABS rod black and scratched it across the helmet. And here´s the result, my helmet, always followed by a reference picture of the screen-used helmet. Here are some more shots showing the interior. This was a fun project.. I might even do another one.
Chopper
Hey Hausi, nice work! I especially like the scratch work you did on the top of the dome. The scouts in ROTJ used rattle cans for the weathering. However, having painted (and re-painted) more Scout helmets than I'd care to admit, I've converted over to using an airbrush myself. There's just so much more control, especially if you're trying to emulate the markings of a screen used helmet. Again, fantastic work. I hope to see you both as an approved scout, as well as a Level 2 (Lancer) applicant in the near future!
Aradun
Again, fantastic work. I hope to see you both as an approved scout, as well as a Level 2 (Lancer) applicant in the near future! I’m going to echo Chopper’s comment above. Great attention to detail, well done!
hausi
Thank you for the kind words. 🙂 I know that they have used rattle-cans on set but as you said, Chopper, trying to recreate a pattern with them seems nearly impossible. Right know, I am happy with the helmet for my collection and not planning to do the rest of the costume too. I rather saw this as a chance to learn something new and as a challenge... which it definitely was.
Omaha Joe
Hey Hausi! it’s good to see a familiar “face” from the MEPD dirty side!! I’ve had two simultaneous builds goin’ on for the last few months, both TB Scout and TD Sandtrooper... Being a big fan of both characters as well as a fan of the look and feel of varying degrees of weathering, I’ve discovered for me it’s a slightly finer line to walk with the Pathfinders than with the Sandies; I prefer the down and dirty ‘lived-in’ look over the ‘bright, brand new’ look... Don’t get me wrong, I very much appreciate both Detachments and the shiny white armor within both, but the weathering on my Scout has proved more difficult for me than on my TD where, shy of a MudTrooper, (almost) anything goes..! I’m really likin’ what you’ve done with your Scout lid and kudos to your attention to detail and excellent use of screen-used helmet reference pics, it looks GREAT!!! hausi
@doubledx, thanks my friend, I am so looking forward to trooping with you. 😃 @Omaha Joe, thanks for the kind words. I think both ways of building and weathering are very different but similarly difficult and should be equally appreciated. I think you know that the MEPD's SWAT requirements are about way more than just slapping on some dirt.

Agreed!! the attention to detail with both SWAT and Lancer is both enticing and intimidating all rolled into one!!
