I've done a little bit of research and on the CRL it doesn't state a specific material for the armor, more specifically the hip plates. With the kit i have the plates were a little too big and would form for me to properly attach them. I replicated the hipplates using eva foam for durability and easier attaching. In my opinion they look good, im going for 501st approval so i just wanted to check to see if these would pass. I have pics but too big to post here apparently.

Thanks

EVA foam is fine as long as the thickness is similar to the screen used.  Also even if you use EVA, the armor "plates" need to be on there and made of plastic.  Usually some office signs made of ABS will work just fine.

Hi! I made my own hip plates too in order to get a better fit. I used a neoprene backer and used styrene for the hard "armor" part. If you're having issues painting the hip armor, hit it with some plasti dip first.

Plastidip sounds like a good idea also, thanks I appreciate it

Hi...

Longtime Scout, sometime Darth Maul...and building a Shoretrooper. I've been sourcing the Plastazote (not cheap)...and am wondering about the EVA option. the thickness of the hip armor is 1/4"??? or am i off?

thanks

That'll work out fine. Coat it with something like mod podge or plasti-dip before trying to paint it.
