ScaryGuy Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I used Sahara Beige directly on my rubber straps without any primer and it sticks perfectly to the rubber. My straps came from Bone Buddrus, there might be some difference in compounds used by vendors which might cause the paint issues. Or they used some kind of release agent that still on the rubber that causes problems. I really haven’t heard yet of people having problems painting their straps. The resin on webbing is a creative idea, but the webbing should not be visible between the ridges.
NegativeEleven Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Trimming down the big triangle things and trying to decide if this knee plate is usable. For the stormtrooper knee plate, it was a real bad vac-form pull. Clearly overheated, bad texture all over and the raised squares were real soft. I fixed most of that, but still have issues. The sides are way too long, and it needs to open up a bunch. I riveted a hinge (backed with sintra for strength) to put the 2 halves of calves together. I figure the straps are gonna do most of the work to hold them together and the front pieces will hide seams completely.
NegativeEleven Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 Guess I'm waiting for someone to tell me whether the diamond knee plate is usable or if I should be looking for another. Is this plate attached to the wraparound shin armored or the resin front/strap assembly? Also, I have skimmed other WIPs, but haven't seen a good breakdown of how the fronts attach to the main shin armor. I see velcro under straps, but obviously there's some attachment on the front, something to force the fronts to stay in place if they are removed for storage

NegativeEleven Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 Cool. Thanks. I'm gonna hit up my armorer for another knee plate. The sides of this one definitely look like they're too long.
NegativeEleven Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 So, I sort of hit pause on this when I got a full time job in January. Since I last posted, I got some shins, the knee plate, straps, and trimmed/painted the resin buckles that came with my kit. Now I am worried that these shins won't work. They are TK shins, and after trooping with an approved Din Djarin (the Mandalorian), I see that the shins I should be using are much bigger, right?
NegativeEleven Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 Looking at the pics that BikerScout007 added to the CRL this year, these shins should work. I'm adding all the velcro and chopping a couple of ribs off each of the large straps. I'm putting screws thru the shin, thru the strap and into the big buckles. That should ensure that one side is locked in place and the velcro around will line up from there. Still not psyched about just velcro holding the heavy resin fronts in place. Might need to engineer some kind of hook, or something to hold that weight and make sure they're placed centered cause while looking down at my own legs, it might be hard to tell.
Minimo Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Velcro should be fin, I would suggest trying out with velcro first, and adjusting if need be. You can also magnet or glue the front… As an alternative to using screws KW has a pretty good video on how he did it:Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NegativeEleven Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 Looks like size is gonna be fine. Got minimal velcro on now for placement. 1
