Toothdoc
And another clarification while I have my paintbrush out, the rectangle box on the front chest armor is supposed to be PAINTED on and not a decal, correct? That’s how I read the CRL. If so, I’m planning on just using the same gloss gray paint I painted my TK TRAPS and TEARS with. Surely the Empire has standards that cross over... Awaiting your recommendations, 🙂
Chopper
You want it to be close to the color of the decals on your helmet and snout, so it would depend on what those look like. I'm not talking about an exact pantone match, but it should be in the same ballpark.
Harbinger
I found the Testors 1138 to match my RS snout, and that is the same color as used on TK buckets, but YMMV.

I really liked the gray they used. My Ukswrath replacement is a slightly lighter shade. Filing this pearl away for future reference. Toothdoc
Does anyone have any comments on the SC helmet chin cup? How is this supposed to work? Do you just attach some Velcro to an elastic strap on both sides and then on both sides of your helmet? I was thinking it maybe was glued on to the bottom inside aspect of the helmet face somehow, but that doesn’t seem right...
Chopper
On the original helmets there were two slits cut into the sides and then the elastic was glued to fit -- you can see it in the photos below. Other folks have attached the elastic to the inside of the rotator bolts, or to their hardhat headband.
Toothdoc
Ah! Now that you show those photos, I can see a faint 1/2” strap slot area molded into the chin cup itself. Makes sense now. Thanks again!
Toothdoc
Have a question regarding mounting the tank top to the SC Armor tank back piece. Are you guys gluing the top detail piece down to the top of the tank or just using a single rivet to hold it there? When I have my tank pushed down onto the back piece, that top area bows up significantly and if glued down all over, I’m afraid the cast resin piece is going to flex and break.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Toothdoc
Here you can see the bowing up in the middle and how it would effect the sides by putting tension on them.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Toothdoc
I also see some of you have affixed the bottom of the tank with a single screw. Is this Level 2 compliant? I’d rather do this with a screw and have a “false” strap look than a cheesy strap on tank, even though that’s what screen accuracy dictates. Chopper
The elastic strap is optional. However the CRL states that a "rivet" is used for Level 2. "Tank has a single silver colored 1/8th (3mm) rivet placed in the bottom center of the tank."
Toothdoc
How have you guys attached your chinstrap to your helmet? I’ve tried doing so to the visor bolt and it’s just not at quite the right angle, too forward. Any other recommendations?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk My helmet kit just arrived the other day and I've been wondering the same thing. I was thinking maybe sewing the end of the elastic to something less stretchy (like a piece of nylon webbing) and then just gluing it in? But I haven't actually tried it yet so I'm not sure how it would work out.
Aradun
The elastic for the chin strap is usually just glued with e6000 to the bucket but you can also use Velcro. Glue a tab of hook into the helmet and stitch the loop on the end of the strap. The RS photos above will show you the placement.

The CRL says the boxes should hang down about an inch, but that seems really short. So what length should I set them from the bottom of the belt to the parachute clip and from the parachute clip to the opening of the box? So how long are the straps from the belt to box supposed to be?

We don't have an exact measurement because none of us have been fortunate enough to hold a tape measure up to an original costume. All we can do is eyeball it and the boxes sit fairly close to the belt. I've seen scouts that have their dropboxes half way down their thigh and the evidence does not support that:

I think someone said 1.5 inches from belt to edge of buckle and 1.5 inches from buckle to box.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I've not done it yet with mine, but been meaning to. If you think how a respirator is held on your head, work the straps a little further to the rear, over the ear towards the back of your head where most people have a cowlick. Lower should help it keep the face up. Use some of the good old industrial strength velcro with adhesive backing, then elastic straps on that chin cup. 2
