guess its hard to see if there will be problems with the cover alls without everything else? while i wait for my hard and soft armor to arrive i ordered boots...i dont know if im gonna try to do them myself as i'd need to buy a sowing machine..they will likely be the last thing to complete/order but here they are! ill probably make the cuts to the sides of the soles this weekend to pass some time and avoid mowing the yard lol

Hi Mike. Looks like you’re off to good start. The one issue with the Redkap is that although it’s a great base to work with they are pretty baggy right out of the box. You’re going to want to make sure your tailor/seamstress takes in those legs. The upper body isn’t as problematic since it will be covered by your cummerbund, vest and armor. Make sure it’s comfortable but not overly tight.

I recommend that you keep the detail page here: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_scout_trooper-suitdetail handy to ensure you get the suit in an approvable state. There are also a ton of good threads for the soft goods that you should take a look at here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/3-the-rotj-biker-scout-armory/

Your base boot looks good with the solid color sole. Make sure they are comfortable for you since you’re going to spend a lot of time walking around in them. There are some vendors here on the boards where you can buy the parts already sewed and build the boots yourself.

On that note most of us never sewed before either and picked it up to build our costumes. If we can do it you can certainly do it so don’t be afraid of taking a shot at it. There are some fantastic and talented folks here would would be more that happy to help you along so don’t feel like you can’t do it. You can do anything sir and we’re here to help should you need.

ya, when i get the redkap's to the tailor ill get the legs taken in some, im a pretty skinny dude as it is. i have all the pics from the links you provided and afew DIY/WIP suit pics all saved in a folder, gonna print them all out to show them what i need exactly. i didnt know there were vendors for DIY boot kits, ill definitely hunt out that in the vendor section!

@Retrofire in regards to the boot, what do you guys do for laces? the kingshow's round laces style ive used before on my work boots and hate that they come loose...ok to replace with flat or flat elastic laces since they arent seen anyway? what does everyone have better luck with when trooping?

Yeah you can use a flat lace but most of us just go without them at least on the uppers. I think I only have about three rows at the bottom. Your boot is already going to be snug with the calf piece. Just make sure they’re snug enough not to rub.

Hey Mike, I just want to echo Retrofire’s comments above. I’m just finishing up a ROTJ scout build that I started in January with no sewing experience and I’ve done my own cummerbund, cod, boots, undersuit and flak jacket using a $100 sewing machine. I’m quite please with the results. Once you get the knack of it, it really is super easy and will save you a lot of money in the long run as you put your build together.

The other scouts, command team and armorers on this forum are awesome resources and always ready to chime in and lend a hand with someone’s build and questions. Your in good hands brother.

Be sure to check out some of the WIPs as they are a great guide as you work on your own WIP.

probably gonna cross post this on the soft armor forum. my flak jacket and 'bund arent going to be here till end of aug, armor wont be here till mid july, while i wait....

i did my outlines in chalk for the tailor to have references.the top line on the front they meets the zipper (horizontal) is 4.5in on either side of the zipper. from the groin to the bottom (inseam) is 9in. on the back it is again 9in from groin to bottom (inseam) going up from the groin seam where the legs all meet, up to the top on the back along the spine is  7in.

on the front the 4 red lines (each 2in apart on either side) will be where i want the thigh elastic straps....

does all this look correct?

Hi Mike looks like you got some good advice from @BikerScout007 over in the soft armor thread here:

A word about cross posting. When you have a build thread going try to keep everything within your WIP thread. That way you don’t have multiple threads floating about and the Armourers can focus on a single thread. If you find you do need to cross post then add the thread link so the information flow stays harmonious. It makes it easier to ensure you’re getting the information that you need.

You’re doing a great job so far! Looking forward to seeing that armor come in. Keep up the great work!

awwww yeah!!! armor arrived today! my redkap coveralls are currently getting made to spec at the seamstress, kripton top soft goods will hopefully be here end of august, and @cheesewhoopy boot kit is on order as well.. im not gonna mess to much with adjustments till atleast the coveralls get back. armor is @StudioCreations . it got held up in atlanta for about 3 days and i was getting worried but it all looks great! i need to figure out the bicep/forarm armor situation for skinny dudes like myself... in just a tshirt there is alot of play in the forearm and bicep  armor... like... they slide down to my hand..

Glad to see it arrived safely.  That box-inside-a box design has been alife saver with these assembled armor shipments.  No broken parts yet.

How's the belt fit and/or curve around you???  We used the new "small belt" mold and it has only had a few people use it so far.

Glad to hear everything arrived safe and sound Mike. BBB day is very exciting! Sounds like everything is coming together and that your WIP is going to kick into high gear soon. Looking forward to seeing your build complete.

As for the forearm and bicep armor...You can get the straps pretty snug. The abs will flex so you should be able to get it more snug than it is out of the box. Velcro on your undersuit and forearm/bicep armor pieces will be your best friend. It’ll keep it from sliding and shifting as you troop, and should help with the sliding issue.

Be sure to post up those questions. We’re all here to help.

Waiting’s the worst. Hang tight brother. You’ll be kicking it into high gear soon enough. Looking forward to seeing you post up once your stuff has arrived.

still waiting on all the stuff i ordered...my armor is sitting in a rubbermade box since i received it, no point in fitting it all up with out everything else...ugh...

covid/political climate in Bolivia is setting the soft armor etsy order behind greatly...

no update on the boot kit yet...

called the seamstress for an update "oh the black coveralls you wanted all the stuff done that's laying on my table in pieces?" .....she sounded happy lol

Hang in there brother. Once you get everything in you’ll be able to kick it in high gear and you’ll knock out your kit in no time.

ok, boot kit came in.... need alot of opinions...or..fix ideas...i dont know... i'm frustrated......full disclosure, i sent the maker these pics as well, dunno if i measured wrong or something or it was made wrong.....

looking at the CRL and approved pictures here im stuck..it seems like the "tube" of the boot is to tight? i wore dickies to sim the flight suit (still getting sown up) around my calf they feel tight.

another area of HUGE concern is the SC holster.. because of the boot tube diameter and my skinny #%% the holster doesnt seem like its possible at all that it would fit..can i not be a scout because of this/being so skinny?

Yeah those pieces are too tight a fit around your calf. It’ll be rough to get those closed around your flight suit and the holster is sized for a wider diameter. That’s more a riding boot diameter than a typical scout boot diameter.

Check out this tutorial for how best to measure the vertical portion of the boot. It should be about halfway down on the first page.

Hey Mike, if feel your frustration. Sorry bud.

If the error is on the maker, hopefully they’ll make things right and recut and resend you the tubes for the boots. If it’s on you because your measurements were off, don’t panic. In either case, the tutorial Retrofire provided you will not only show you how to obtain the proper measurements but it will also show you how to make the tube yourself. It’s pretty easy, and will only cost you about a yard of marine vinyl from Joann Fabrics. The sewing for this portion of the boot is pretty simple too. Seam at the top and attaching the hook and loop. Take it from a guy who made his own boots using that tutorial who never used a sewing machine prior to this build.

Post up if you need help and we’ll try our best to guide you through the process.

ugh well guess whos back finally with some progress! had a big problem with an esty seller...search forums before you buy! then the local seamstress thought it would be cool to have other customers as her priority vs my coverall mods.... well this week it finally all came together. steph's imperial outfitters picked up the slack from the bad esty seller. at this point the only thing that needs to be made/bought is the blaster and boots. below is a VERY test fit with some of the armor on, knee pads need velcro on the jumpsuit.. i think the webbing on the belt pouches need to be adjusted? also the shoulder bells need to come up... this thread will be picking back up every weekend as i finally fit it all to me...st

Hey Mike -- I think your right shoulder, which is closer to the chest armor bridge, is positioned about right. Your left shoulder should come up to match.

Your drop boxes could come up, yes. The ideal is to have the drop boxes hang about 1" from the belt, but there's no specific requirement for basic approval.

some updates from today... nothing picture worth yet but adjusted the belt boxes to be higher and more on my sides, put Styrofoam in the 'bund pouches to fill them out, and put black Velcro on the insides of most of the armor in prep for fitament and keeping it all in place, its not seen when wearing the armor.

what do you guys typically use for the detonator, it has clips but anything else to keep it from falling off? also i'm assuming most of you do use velcro to keep armor in place on the arms and knees correct?
