TB-74812 for lancer request (APPROVED)

Recommended Posts

Armor is from studio creations, holster from Cast from Original out of the UK (holster has the vents cut out), knee armor have both elastics and upper rivets showing.

Overalls from marks work wearhouse, modified by removing pockets, adding 2" thigh elastic, velcro on knee and bicep areas to prevent armor from shifting, mandarin velcro collar, velcro on mid section for cod piece attachment, real suede inner thighs as well as butt flap.

Boots from KINGSHOW Men's 1366 Water Resistant Premium Work Boots, modified myself with marine white vinyl, boots soles notched out myself.  installed the holster and rivets myself, added a magnet to inside of holster to keep pistol in place.

pistol from darth voorhees, I added a clear acrylic lens on the inside of the scope.

I modified the stock visor bolts with a dremel and sandpaper to achieve the concave look, painted and clear coated. added black cloth to inside of helmet (ear sections), cut out the ear holes.

gloves from wampa wear

made the cummerbund (added straps to keep if from sliding down), side pouches (made to spec shown in pictures with ruler), cod piece (added a kydex curved piece to eliminate crotch bunching, elastic connects to rear of cummerbund) flak vest by myself with raglan sleeves with batting quilted look , all fabrics from Len's Mill.

I replaced the vacuum tubing of the detonator box with a vinyl 1 1/2" tube wrapped in 3mm Hollow PVC Tubular Rubber Cords, glued, recapped and installed new rivets for the metal clips.

I filled in the rear seam of the bucket with jb weld plastic bonder, wet sanded and repainted bucket, added new stickers courtesy of studio creations, bucket has the chin cup.

All armor was repainted to match the bucket.

Hi Sebastien, thank you so much for your application. The Level 2 review team has reviewed your photos and have the following feedback for you:

First off, we want to commend you on your excellent thermal detonator wrap job. Yours is one of the best wrapped detonator tubes that we've seen so far!

Flight Suit
Dressing adjustment -- Please make sure you pull down the butt flap next time you get suited up. The length/width of the flap looks ok based on the armor off shot, so just keep an eye out next time you get suited up.

Shoulder Armor
The shoulder bell elastic appears to be 3/8" not 1/2" as per the CRL. Can you please take a clearer photo to confirm?
CRL: Armor is secured around bicep with a 1/2 inch (12mm) black elastic strap.

Forearm Armor
Dressing adjustment -- next time you get dressed, check that your left forearm armor is rotated forward a bit more, so it's at about a 45 degree angle.

Chest Armor
Can you please provide a measurement photo for the shoulder bridge coverings?
CRL: Shoulder bridge covers, covering the join between the front and back of the armor, are made of white cotton webbing or elastic. Covers are between .5 inch and 1 inch wide.

Cummerbund
Your bund looksa bit long for your build. Can you confirm if you've tucked it under your belt? Ideally the bund length is typically around 9" and should be sitting on top of the belt.

Codpiece
Your cod is very narrow and triangular in shape. The sides should be more of a curve, as per the CRL photos. See photo below.
CRL: Codpiece and sewn curve conforms to shape pictured in the CRL or Costumes book.

Belt and Detonator
As we mentioned earlier, EXCELLENT job on the detonator!!!! 😃

Blaster
Please remove the clear lens from pistol scope, it was not used in the screen used versions.

Boots
Your boot shafts are fairly wide for your leg and your right boot has a significant droop, due to the weight of the blaster.
Additionally, the stitching on your dog bones appears straight, not rounded. See reference photo below.
CRL: Dog bones have double stitching along the rounded edges as seen in the film.

TB_scout_boots.jpeg

xgvoKbll.jpg

It may be possible to reduce the boot shaft size by adjusting the position of the inner rear vinyl shaft halves on the back of the boots. You'd end up having the re-position and re-sew the velcro once you adjust to the proper size.

I fully acknowledge that this is going to be tricky, as you will want to avoid a "cone look" with a large lower portion of the shaft and a smaller upper shaft.

One tip for avoiding "boot droop" is to sew some elastic into the boot vinyl. It's sewn behind the holster and wraps around your calf. You can't see it, but it does keep the boot from dropping down when the blaster is carried. It's not the only way to do it, but it is one way.

Overall, it may seem like a lot, but a majority of our feedback is dressing and verification questions. The three big areas to focus on are the boots, bund, and codpiece. Overall, I'd say you're about 90% of the way there, but we just need to do just a bit more to get over the finish line.

Please let us know if you have any questions, need any clarification, or if there's anything we can do to help.

I made a new cummerbund, the old one was tucked under the belt at 12", the new one is 8" and sits above the belt.

The cod piece is also new, wider with pelvic stiffener, attaches to cummerbund at rear and to coveralls at front under the cummerbund

please note the pictures are flipped, the velcro isn't backward, it is right over left.

Thank you, Sebastien. Your bund and cod shape looks much better!

I know that you're still in-progress with your application updates, but one item that the team wanted to give you a heads up on is the stitched arc on your codpiece -- the arc should be at about the lower 1/3 of the cod. See image below with the CRL photo for comparison. You should be able to remove any stitch marks by steaming the fabric.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns for the team.

Now I have to wait until Monday for boot vinyl! The rivet holes will show on the surface of the fabric due to the 11/2" that I had to take in on the upper and I can't have that.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took the slop out of the upper but now my boots looks like crap! Heating the pistol holster for a better curving fit isn't possible I've already toasted one trying to fine tune things. Makes for a very sharp front of the upper, trimming the holster is out of the question because the rivets are already at their furthest positions. The problem is the inner elastic is that my calves are not large and the holster rear plate is which makes everything out of proportion bring in so close, I trimmed over 2" off the upper to bring it it closer...I'm thinking, would wearing a foam support inside the boot to give the holster a bit of distance between it and my leg be an option. Have other scouts with skinny legs hit this roadblock as well?

The left boot will look great but I want to wait until we figure something on the off chance that I have to re-expand both sides, I have enough vinyl to do it but I'm not gluing anything down until we have a definite route to go by.

Thank you, Sebastien. Could you please have someone take a side view photo, or do a time delay, of the right boot? It's very difficult to see the width of the boot with the angles you've provided.

You can see in the 1st picture the width of the holster vs my leg

the second picture shows the point that the upper of the boot take

the inner braces make it hard to fasten the velcro at the rear, maybe taking out the braces would solve my issues front and back?

Hi Sebastien, the team has taken a look at your progress on the boots. We really appreciate all the work you've put into this.

Since you can't make the right boot any smaller, due to the holster fit, go ahead with what you have.

Make sure to try and make the right and left boots match in terms of width.

One final note -- we've seen a lot of folks use those large flanged rivets in their build -- you should really replace them with smaller ones, which are closer to those used in the screen builds:

Large flange:

vs

Small flange (preferred):

Ok, I also have a couple of other things I wanted to make clear as well.

The circle on top of the tank (white one) is it ok to paint in the reassessed area or must I fill in the hole flush and paint a circle afterwards?

50097633283_0681c51595_z.jpgthumbnail_Screenshot_20200710-150045_Gallery by Sebastien Cote, on Flickr

Also the ears on the bucket, should I go bigger or leave them be?

As far as the rivets go, I use the middle one, 5/32 in dia.

Sebastien, thank you for providing additional photos.

1) Yes, that divot on the tank topper will need to be filled in and then painted with a circle.

2) Your ear holes looked ok in the initial photos. If you want to give us a head on 3/4 angle shot, that might show us a little better how they look from the front.

3) The rivet you used, the 5/32 is a bit large. The 1/8" rivet, which I believe is the top most one in your photo, is typically what is recommended.

Keep it up!

I've addressed the slop in the boots, filled in the circle on the top of the tank and painted it, removed the lens from the pistol, added contoured stitching to the dog bones, added internal elastic to the right boots to minimize holster droop, swapped out the 5/32" rivets for 1/8" rivets on the holster, new bund, new cod. Let me know if I missed something
