weathering ideas and tips?

Ok guys and gals,

My scout is pretty much done. just fine tuning some things before approval pics.

My question is about weathering. I would like to weather my scout, however I do not want to over weather. I have a very clean TK so I do not feel I need a clean TB.

Is there a link, thread, or just general tips on weathering? Materials used, tips on how to apply, where on the armor to apply? 

Also I know some who have air brushed, but after cannot get the armor wet due to it washing off. Im not sure I want to do this especially since I do not own airbrush eq.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

man it hurts my heart just a little bit when I see those BIG spray marks hit that white armor!!!!

That being said, this is probably the direction I will go. (only much lighter)

I was thinking about something that had a little more green and browns in it too. Sort like it has brushed up against lots of trees, and foliage. Thoughts?

Depends on how accurate you wanna be. The rattle can black was the only paint used on the screen scouts.

For some reason I thought they had hints of grass stain or bush whack here and there.

I sooooo want to weather it up, but have seen how some people over do it on sandtroopers and am afraid of making a mistake that cant be undone. 

If I DO screw up and do a little too much, is there a way I can get the paint off?

Take your time,go very slow. Super fine steel wool will take some paint off without scratching the armor underneath. No, like I stated about just the rattle can black. I've seen some of the scouts your referring to. It just doesn't look right to me. I'd stick with the screen look. You did check out Striders video right? If not I would. That's how we do it.

Pro tip -- if you can get a can of tamiya matte black spray paint, you'll be able to get a far better controlled spray effect than the krylon can.

Before i build my armor i weathered it. Easier to do, no paint on the straps etc and use some sort of test piece to try your weathering.

 

Like the guys said before, this is the most accurate way to do it because they did it like this on the real costumes. In my opinion a weathered scout looks sooooo much better.

Test your technique on something, cardboard box, wood, etc. and experiment with distance. The closer you get, the heavier it will look, and if too close you’ll end up with running paint. It’s always better to go light and then build on spots than to go to heavy and have to sand it down.

I love the weathered look, but am not a fan of weathering that looks like you have blaster shots all over your armor.

My scout is a mixture of washes, mists and just paint application. I like how it looks and i stand out somewhat in a crowd of scouts. I over did the spray a little and it came right off with rubbing alcohol.

I was thinking of a can of black water-based/semi-removable ‘movie paint’ used on the STs. Beat of both worlds?

That video is really useful and it’s made me not worry at all about doing it now.

I had great results just rubbing in some black oil paint and sealing it with Krylon gloss varnish. It gave me more control and if I didn't like something I just wiped it off. I just dabbed on some paint using paper towels and kinda just kept dabbing and smearing it to my liking
