DLT-20a

Hey there scouts!

I finished up my DLT-20a this past week and figured I'd throw some pics up here in case anyone else was looking for a sweet looking blaster project for their scout.

I 3d printed this from a set of files I purchased off of Etsy. They were really great files to work with and made printing it easy (although it still took a few rounds of primer & sanding before all of the print lines disappeared).

Awesome James. Who was the vendor if you don’t mind me asking? As you know not all 3D projects on Etsy are the same, but you seemed quite pleased with the result and it looks excellent!

This looks to be April Storm’s files if I’m not mistaken. I printed one off her files too, very happy with the design.

Yep. It was from April Storms Etsy shop.

The whole thing took about 3 rounds of priming / sanding. (the barrel shroud took a couple of extra rounds to get that looking the way it does.)

I used Rustoleum grey filler primer in between sanding. The key when working with 3d prints is that you aren't trying to sand down the layers of the print but rather sanding the filler primer. If you sand down the actual plastic print too much you can take it down to the supports inside, which is something you absolutely don't want. So be careful of that. Also be careful using tools like a Dremel to sand your 3d prints. They heat up so much after only a little bit of sanding and will easily melt your plastic. Sanding by hand is the best way to go in my opinion and what I did for this blaster. Also for the couple of small cracks where the prints didn't join flush, I used some sandable wood filler.

Once I had the blaster looking as smooth as I possible, I used Rustoleums Professional High Performance Enamel in a flat black. Give it light coats. You don't want to lay down anything too heavy and risk runs or uneven build up.

Finally it was detailed / weathered using some miniature paints. (mostly silver and some gun metal). Most of the blaster was dry brushed with accents hit to highlight them. The barrel took forever. I came back in some of the crevices with some black wash to dirty them up.

@Barber

Sorry for the restart of the thread but ive been researching getting a scout kit and ive been struggling to sort of a blaster etc.  This has pretty much convinced me to grab these files , bribe a mate to print them and then use this post as an inspiration to get it built and set up.

It looks amazing

Thanks brother. Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck on the build.

When it’s all done, it’s a solid blaster to carry and honestly not very heavy at all. Keep in mind you’ll want a wooden dowel rod down the middle of it. (The 3D file is made to accommodate this!)
