JBar Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 So a few years ago, I had a blast building my biker scout kit. I only got to do one troop and I haven't trooped since. It's been a rough few years. Things are finally looking better and the silver lining to this virus is that I've had lots of time off and I want to seriously get back into trooping! I'm on reserve so hopefully I can get active status again soon! Here is my original WIP post: First of all, this is something I should have done when I first built my armor, but I got a new sewing machine (as well as a wife haha) to sew some velcro that will attach to the underside of the chest and back armor. I used high temp hot glue to glue the hook to the armor. No more cummerbund slipping! Also, my boots have totally fallen apart. I saw a sale on Imperial Boots and got a pair (left side). They are way more durable feeling and light weight. I also had to get another SC holster since my old one cracked along the edges. They cracked because I used a 1/16" shank on the pop rivets which was too tight. I found some short 1/8" shank pop rivets as well as washers that I tested and they will be much better. I haven't assembled the holster yet because I might get a DVH blaster on his next run, and I want to make sure I set the magnets in properly. Lastly, I want to make the detonator more secure. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the clips from slipping off easily? 1
BikerScout007 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Think you could talk your wife into making you a new cummerbund altogether? Things have changed a lot in the past few years and the "Long tube top with the bikini bottom codpiece" way of doing things has gone away. Give this a read, along with the other pinned posts in the Soft Goods section 2
BikerScout007 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 On the TD -- on my old SC TD I had additional clips hidden by the TD housing. That way there were four clips holding it to my belt. 1

From what I gathered it looks like the cummerbund is now two separate pieces? Just curious what would need to be changed with a new one.

Stroker Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Here's a pic of my TD I did it the same way. Two clips hidden behind the housing along with the main black metal clips. 1 1

Codpiece attaches under the cummerbund either to the vest, the undersuit or the backside of the cummerbund. The codpiece is NOT sewn to the bottom edge of the cummerbund. 1

It was always two pieces, we just didn't have all the info until recently. In the film, the codpiece was connected the vest. The cummerbund, with the pouches sewn to it, was worn over top of the vest and codpiece. Just looking at your old cummerbund, it's too long. It looks like it would go past your belt if you wore your belt just below your pouches. You want your bund to be between 8 and 9 inches in height. All the material below the red line should be removed. Sorry for my ad hoc drawing! 1
Dart Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Also, the pouches should be about 6" x 5" x 2". If yours are bigger, it might not be a bad idea to see if you can make some new ones. 1
JBar Posted April 23, 2021 Author Posted April 23, 2021 I lost a ton of weight so I had to make some alterations but I think the new boots are looking great. I'm sending in some resubmission photos. I have a new rubber blaster but I need some additional tools to bend some metal for a magnetic hand guard 1
JBar Posted November 18, 2021 Author Posted November 18, 2021 Ok big update here, first of all I fully redid my thermal detonator. Previously I didn't have very good backing washers behind the clip rivets but now they're on there and very durable. I also made a payment to Moncal for a new helmet. Lastly, I used some black oil paint and I'm working on some weathering. I'm giving it some time before I seal in the weathering with some gloss varnish. Let me know if anyone has any objections to the weathering. I'm pretty happy with it overall. I think it gives some depth without going overboard.
Chopper Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 The ROTJ scout basically had some misting/blaster spots, which I think you've approximated. Less is more, so I wouldn't do any more weathering than what you have now. 3
JBar Posted January 23, 2022 Author Posted January 23, 2022 So excited right now! Finally finished my Moncal helmet and couldn't be happier. With so many changes I suppose I should send these new pics to my GML to make sure I'm all set to go. If anyone sees any mistakes let me know. I'm not wearing my vest in these pics. I finally feel like I'm looking the way I want to after all these years. The helmet, boots, TD, and light weathering I think has made a huge impact on the look. I also added a punching bag and binoculars just for fun. I made the binoculars off this great Etsy creator: Also, I initially had issues with painting my helmet but got it all resolved. If anyone needs help matching a good paint color for their SC armor, check out my post here These were just some quick pics. I'm lucky to live in the Pacific NW so I plan to take a shuttle to "Endor" soon with my wife who happens to be a photographer! 4
JBar Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Ok the big photoshoot finally happened! I had an absolute blast driving down to Cheatham Grove where the original speederbike chase was filmed. I highly recommend visiting. Just watch out for all the ewoks!
