Biker Scout boots help!

Howdy all!  I am currently trying to make a pair of scout boots myself, based off of cheesewhoopy's tutorial.  I am using the same model boot, but it appears that the boots have had an updated appearance since he made the tutorial, as the sole is a slightly different color and is in a few layers, instead of one even color throughout.  My question is: would it be a problem for approval?  I'm not sure how stingy the process is going to be.  Also hand carving the sole to look like INTER sierra sneakers is pretty difficult as well, and won't look EXACTLY like them, so are they approvable it they aren't exact?  Thanks for helping out y'all!!

The boots you purchased are different from the ones used in the tutorial.

These are the ones used. It’s the 1366 model.

The carving is not going to be able to match the originals but should approximate as best as you can. If you’re uncertain, sketch it out in pencil and then post pics for some feedback.

 

I painstakingly measured my initial drawing to match the Sierra’s but then bagged the idea once I saw how my carved notches wouldn’t line up right with the sole’s existing notches. I then modified my drawing to fit the notches in the existing boot and it made for a much cleaner look.

 

As for painting the soles, I’ll leave that to members of the approval team and armorers to chime in.

From a Level 2 evaluation perspective, we don't require you to exactly match the cut pattern. We understand that the original boots don't exist anymore, so you just need to get close to the original pattern.

You can look at some of the more recently cleared lancer apps in the link below to get an idea of what others have done:

These are the current boot requirements:

Boots White and may be lightly weathered. The soles of the boot are tan. A "dog bone" shaped strap covers the bridge of the foot. Dog bones have double stitching along the rounded edges as seen in the film. The boots are secured up the back using 25mm (1 inch) white hook and loop fastener. The calf of the boot rises to just slightly underneath the bottom of the knee armor. Left boot closure is left-over-right. Right boot closure is right-over-left.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The boots have slots cut into the heels and toes as seen in the film. The boot sole is a single color with no visible stitching. Boots that are constructed too wrinkled (i.e not stretched/fitted correctly prior to gluing) or poor in appearance will be refused.

The cuts and single color sole are level 2 requirements.  However, you should always check with your local GML.

Yep, the Sierra's have asymmetrical sole notches so it'd be darn near impossible to replicate it exactly.

Thanks for the input, guys!  I see how my boots are different now, gonna return them to ge the more tan-looking ones you all suggested.  And as for the CRL, i guess I just assumed that you had to have notches!
