SC Helmet build questions...

Recommended Posts

Hey ya’ll

So I just got my SC armor kit in the mail. This is my first armor build. I’m starting with the helmet, and I have some questions about what exactly is required for approval. I would rather get approved first then worry about Lancer status much later.

So the SC helmet has a back piece and a dome. Can I get approved with a seam still present there? Or am I required to fill the seam?

Also, the decal sheet I was sent with the helmet contains two black decals for the ear holes. Is it required that these be cut out? Or can it be filled in with the decals or paint?

Thanks in advance. Im sure I’ll have a lot more questions as I go...

The seam would have to be filled for level 2 "Lancer". I personally like the ears open as opposed to the decals. For one it looks better and two for the airflow. The ears being open really helps when it comes to staying cool. Again for basic approval they can be decals. Lancer they have to be open.

I'll give you a tip. Go for Lancer right out of the gate! It'll be easier to do it now opposed to later.

I second this! Listen to Stroker, he knows his stuff. It’s much easier to build to Lancer specs now than to have to pull things apart or redo things later.

Hey Rich, you're in my Garrison.  If you are part of the SC build group in honor of Jason, many many thanks!

I echo what was said before,  build for Lancer right away. I learned that lesson building my TK. After it was complete, I decided to go for higher levels of accuracy. While not hard to do after the fact, I had to go and make minor changes that could have easily been completed during the initial build. I am also looking to become a TB with a Studio Creations kit. Have fun on your journey.

Folks,

Where did you guys buy your kits from? where is the best place to buy the kit?

Studio Creations. There are other makers out there though. There is a thread that compares the different armor makers.

I also got an SC kit. And i was wondering how yall fill the gap around the dome and back. Any suggestions?

Most of us use Devcon. It's easy to spread and sand.

You have two options. One is abs paste, which you can make from any scrap plastic left over from your helmet + acetone. The other is devcon. Which one to use comes down to personal preference and materials on hand.
