Dude, you are a real accuratzi (as some folks within the German garrison call themselves, because they go all in for accuracy). Just awesome!

Yep. I agree too. I just know that RS had some rationale behind the matt/satin finish. Just don’t recall what it was.

Whatever rationale, seems they changed it. Check out this recruits RS commission they just received, looks like gloss to me:

I think the fact the Costumes book said "Ferrari White" should be all the rationale anyone needs.  It looks a lot better!

Oh, absolutely. I’m going to do a spot test of some gloss clear-coat (brand TBD) to see if I spot any cracks over the next couple months. If not I’m going to move forward with spraying the whole helmet, if not I may just break down and repaint the whole thing.

Weathering my armor hangs on it, so I’d like to figure it out sooner than later, as you would imagine I do not want to have to repaint the helmet twice. 😅

Velcro added to vest/chest armor, we will see if it helps with the tank pull I have been experiencing.

Mandarin collar to open collar conversion complete:

I did a test spray of Rustoleum 2X Clear Gloss on my helmet (under the visor where it’d go unnoticed) and so far, no cracks etc. It has been over 100°F for the last several weeks*, so if I do not see any paint issues appear in the next week or two, I will proceed with clear-coating.

* Pro tip: don’t leave your helmet in the garage when it gets this hot, or your visor lens may fall out when you try to put it on!
