Best elastic to use?

So Big Brown Box day has descended upon me and I am both excited and terrified.  I am looking to do my knee armor first to get my boots started and then the belt and chest armor to start the cummerbund. I know the CRL says 20mm (3/4") elastic for the bottom part of the knee armor and 12mm (1/2 inch) for the top part.  Here's my two fold question:

1) What brand of elastic have you all had the most success with?

2) How do you secure the elastic so it doesn't unravel once it's cut?

For 2) it is easy to answer: just seal the cut end with a lighter. Heat it up until it melts shut. You can squeeze it a bit with your fingers afterwards, but keep in mind melted rubber and nylon is hot. So if you don't have thick scallus on your fingers, better use flat pliers.

I was wondering if I could do that, thanks!

Hijacking vs. a new thread - CRL says 1/2“ or 3/4” elastic is acceptable for the lower knee strapping. Were both used on screen or is one more accurate? Thanks.

Great question. Now I’m curious too as to why there’s an option for the lower strapping on the knee.

I'm guessing it's just a detail that's missed the c r l editors ? It should be half inch , but as it's almost invisible when worn, three quarters would probably do .

As the knees move around a lot , Velcro is your friend for knee placement .

This was changed maybe 2+ years ago, if I recall correctly.

While a lot of details were revealed with the hi-def blu-ray footage, we weren't able to determine a consistent measurement on the strapping.

Lacking access to the original armor strapping, it was decided at the time that either measurement was acceptable.

Sounds good . Some details are super important for screen accuracy , but some aren't . ( I can't believe I just said that !!,  ) and the difference between elastic sizes on the kneee is one of them lol...  accurate sized knee armour is far far more important  ;0)
