Hello! Does anyone have any good recommendations for either pre-made boxes to insert into the cummerbund pouches, or a good guide on making them? Thanks for your time!

I’ve thought about using plastruct .060 abs plastic sheeting. This is the same stuff modelers use for constructing the houses on train sets. You can cut the plastic sheet to size and use plastic weld to “glue” it together. The plastic weld actually melts the plastic so that when it dries it is “welded” not actually glued. More durable.

If I do it I’m thinking about only doing an insert for the very bottom of the pouch coming up no higher than 2”. I think it’ll be just enough to keep the pouch from sagging and still allow my hand to get into the pouch.

You can always go simple with a light weight cardboard too. Check crafts stores and mailing supply places for 6x5x2 mailing/jewelry boxes. You’d need to modify how the box opens (i.e., from the side as opposed to the top) but it would be a simple solution. Amazon has the boxes but only sells them in quantities of 50.

I am planning to use the non-compressable foam from Lowes or Home Depot, usually pink or blue. just get the 2 inch thick stuff and cut it to size. Its also easy to cut a place for your Aker Amp to put it in your pouch.

I've seen many scouts add rigid material, such as cardboard or plastic to their pouches in order to give them a sharp rectangular shape.

While there is nothing in the CRL that says you can't do it, and many have done so for Level 2 (Lancer), the pouches in the film had a fairly loose filling in them to bulk them out.

I used a bit of cardboard, folded in a way that would allow my phone to fit in the pouch, then surrounded the outside of it with cotton batting. Either way works.

To piggyback on what Chopper mentioned above, I've also seen people who've put large sponges in their pouches that have been cut down to size.
