Downsizing armor?

Recommended Posts

I recently got my new armor set and it’s a little big on me. I remember seeing a tutorial thread somewhere talking about how to modify armor to better fit a smaller female frame, but now I can’t find it. Anyone happen to know where it is or can tell me what all I would need to do to downsize my kit?

Hey there -- before anything else, whose armor kit are you using?

Who did you buy your armor from. Once we have that info we will better understand what you need to do.

There's this thread from jen0farc, but she was using the older SC kit:

There's also some discussion on trimming down the hard parts in Pandatrooper's build thread from a few years ago. Again, he's using the older SC armor as well:

Aside from those examples, give us a shout if you have questions.

Not sure how much this will help but:

I did follow Panda's guide for the most, but had to make larger cuts to the chest/back and used the heat gun, though it still sits a bit wide on me. I padded out my bund to address this,  but plan to rebuild the chest/bund eventually (because I look like a sausage). I made return edges but ended up removing them due to mobility issues.

I installed a hardhat liner and added padding to the top of the helmet to bring it up so it wouldn't clunk against my chest piece--- gave me a whopping 2in of added height (bringing me to a towering 5'1" in kit lol).

I replaced the forearms and shoulder bells with Walt's kid TB pieces, though since have cut the SC shoulder bells to fit. We have a Scout in West Texas that's my size and cut the forearm pieces down,  I just went the easier route.

I can dig tonight to see if I have any build pics if you want if it at all helps.

That new style SC kit certainly makes it more difficult to adjust.  Those return edges that go up over your shoulders don't lend themselves well to being re-shaped without that lip kinking when heated up and bent.  Also the new style has the strap indents formed into the chest/back parts where they meet under your armpit.  So removing material there for a better fit would be difficult or maybe even impossible.

That being said, (if memory serves me correctly) last year sometime I recall a smaller framed female scout builder reached out to SC to inquire about them pulling a kit from the easier to modify older kit molds.   I'm not sure if that ever came to be though.  You could reach out to Jeff at SC and see if he ever did that, and if so if he's willing to do it again.
