Need help with helmet paint

Recommended Posts

I bought a sc bucket, due to lancer requirements the rear seam needed to be sealed, I did that, I hoped that home depot spray paint in white would work but was way off, sanded 98% of it off. What do you guys use to paint your bucket? I can't be the only one who's had to seal the rear seam and blend paint!

I used Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2x first in flat white, as a primer, then in gloss white.

What went wrong with your paint job?

Are you trying to only paint the seam and match the paint color to the plastic color?

Yes, I want to avoid painting the whole bucket since it'll set me back weeks since I'd have to order new stickers and reapply, bought it assembled, didn't account for the rear seam. I'm hoping a bit of weathering will help bring it all together without drawing attention to the rear seam. Plus I don't want the bucket being a different color from the rest of the armor.

Assuming it was already painted, you'd need to know what brand and shade of paint was originally used to even have a chance at a decent match.  This job may be better suited for an airbrush.  That would allow you to play around with tinting/mixing and probably offer a better blending spray pattern than you could achieve with a rattle ran.  Got any friends who do scale modeling?  Those guys almost always have airbrush equipment.

An exact commercial paint match to the white SC plastic will be very difficult to achieve without custom mixing.

Most folks paint the whole helmet if they fill the seams for the cap and back style helmets.

As for the paint matching the armor, there's always going to be some difference between the two -- the screen helmets used "Ferrari White", while the armor was unpainted white abs. It's not super noticeable with the bright outside lighting on endor.

You could always buy a few brands of white, paint some white abs styrene squares as samples, and then compare them to the SC white abs color.
