I noticed on the crl today that it says for level 2 any joining seems on the helmet will  need to be filled. So sc helmet unless modified cannot make lancer? am I correct on that.

Correct. The seam has to be filled. Its really not that hard. Other than having to fill the seam its fine for lancer.

The connection between the dome top and the dome backside. the originals were connected by joining two side halves together, filling it and then painted.

SC and some others (kropserkel too?) are different as they are connected top and bottom instead, easier to complete because the seam is barely visible and doesn't need filling per say...

This means that many SC users haven't had to paint anything so far. Finding the right kind of pain and colour and applying it in even layers is one of the reasons people could have gone for the SC bucket in the first place.

So that brings to question. What are sc helmet users using to fill the seem? Are they then having to paint the helmet completely? Would love to see some examples.

Have you done this? What did you use to fill it? I would assume some sort of platic bond

If you save your trimmings from kit construction, you can make abs paste to fill the seam.

There's a good explanation on whitearmor:

This is what I use on all the 5 piece helmets. Also seen troopers use it on the sc helmets. Easy to sand and takes paint.

So would you repaint the entire helmet after that? Just curious on what others are doing

Yeah you'd need to repaint after filling using devcon. It has a yellow color once it cures.

One advantage of using your excess plastic scrap with abspaste is that you don't need to be repainted after sanding, bc the paste is the same color as the helmet.

I've also seen people use white caulk, but it doesn't take paint well and will turn yellow over time.

I have made the abs paste for my tk not sure it takes a polishing to well though. I mostly used it for reinforcement of certain areas.

I forgot about that. I have an SC kit on the way. I was thinking about the Visor, as I have seen other makers have a two piece visor and back of the helmet that needs to be joined. On the SC site, it shows the back and visor as one piece.

SC is a back and cap style. Meaning the cap glues to the back. Then the visor and faceplate go together.  The seam in the back can be a pain. The idea chopper and I gave you are just about the only thing you can do. One doesn't really out weight the other. Like chopper said with devcon you'll have to sand and repaint. The abs paste is hard to sand, but works just as good a glue. Caulk does works also.

I find it interesting because I know as a tk the crl pretty much band any three piece style helmets from being approved. I think there were only a few three piece helmets out anyhow like fx and the like. I wonder if they will ever go to something similar with the scout helmet. I hope not but things do change.

Unlikely to happen anytime in the near future. For years there wasn't that many scout makers out there. It's really stepped up the last few years. We finally have options.

That’s good for sure. There’s a bunch of options I have noticed just in doing my research. Some good some well you know but atleast there are options.
