havent posted on the forums in a while! few months back acquired an Altmanns helmet, bought a chin cup, just tonight ive trimmed it and am looking for elastic webbing sizes to attach it to the helmet. Also is it normal to feel "flustered" when looking where to start to build a scout....I feel like im taking forever for something I could have had done by now. I just dont know where to start and there is so much to do! Also dont know how to sew so unfortunately I myself cannot stitch or sew anything myself....help me push thru this haha! Id just like to be trooping by now!

First of all you’re not alone and second of all take a deep breath and relax. You’re in good company and we’re here to help you be the best scout you can be! Cool? Cool!

Ok so good start getting your bucket so let’s focus on that for a moment. Sweet you got the chin cup trimmed out and now you need to work about fitting the strap. No problem. I don’t use one myself as my bucket fits nicely (I too have an Altman’s) but I would recommend getting some 1” stick on Velcro and some 1” sew on. Now, you will use the stick on in the helmet and sew-on with the strapping. Make sure you leave yourself a bit of slack as you want it to be adjustable.

Now if you already haven’t drop by the armory and start a build thread where the Armory team can come along side of you to help. You can post pics and ask questions and get all the help you need. Also look through some of the other build threads and learn that you are indeed not alone. We were all there once so no worries.

Some things you can start thinking about are sourcing your boots and gloves and thinking about your armor but take it one step at a time and if you need a hand post up.

You've gotten your helmet, and that's a great start!  Like Pete said, chin cups aren't necessary so don't feel too much pressure on that one.

This is totally normal.  It's always hard to start when it seems like it's so far from the end.  Have you picked out a set of armor yet?  Please check out the Armor Comparison if you need some ideas:

And like Pete, said, get a WIP thread started so we can help guide you along:

http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/96-biker-scout-wip/

Sewing can seem pretty daunting when you've never done it before.  I know it was for me, but I'm too impatient to wait for some things so it was something I just had to teach myself.  If you can pick up a sewing machine, I highly advise it.  If not, there are plenty of vendors to handle the soft parts for you:

But how to get started?  I would just pick something easy and tackle it first.  Like trimming armor (once you have your kit).  You just take it one piece at a time and before you know it, you'll be done.

And if you still need some help, reach out to your local Garrison, or better yet, your local Pathfinders ART if you have one in your area.  The list of them is right here:

Sometimes it's easier to do this with friends.

Good luck!

Hey dude, we met at awesomecon in April I think?

On top of what the rest of the crew said, feel free to contact me offline via PM here, or the old line forums if you need additional help with build questions or feedback while looking at vendors.

I got really flustered with my build as well.  This forum and Corey (Chopper) really helped out.  If you joined the OLG Academy, you could probably reach out to Bryan or whoever your advisor is for more help.  Lots of resources here and everyone is helpful and friendly!

Nice!  baby steps my friend.  Just 1 component at a time and it will eventually come together.  I'd strongly suggest learning to do some basic sewing though.  Machines are relatively cheap..even cheaper in the used market.  It doesn't take much practice to run one for basic stitches.  The only thing I had difficulty with was the flak vest.  IMO that particular garment is complicated (sleeves and such).  Just about everything else was a strait stitch..very easy.
